Stop in Sioux Falls SD and visit the Butterfly House and Falls Park. Falls Park has a free laser light show every night that is second to none. The Butterfly house is awesome. You won't regret the stop. I will be working in the flight room Tuesday from 2-4 and hope to see you there.

hey neighbor,

we're taking the same trip this summer - I have our trip out booked, but our trip back is not. We're heading out I80 to Iowa, then up to I90, I90 across to black hills, then weaving south and west to approach Grand Tetons first, then Yellowstone. We're actually thinking of making the northern return trip -

North Dakota - NOrthern MN, Northern WI, UP of MI, then down Michigan into Ohio, then east home.

I think it all depends on the routes you take, there's stuff to see along any of them. Best of luck.

When you are going through the Black Hills area be sure to stop at the Crazy Horse Monument and see it in progress. Also a lovely museum there.
In Chamberlain,SD on I-90 on the way to Sioux Falls from the Black Hills there is a nice campground at Cedar Shore Resort on the Missouri River. Nearby is the Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center which is awesome and a wonderful way to learn about the Native Americans and their history in the Dakotas.
In Mitchell is the "Corn Palace" which is a building in downtown on Main Street that is covered with wonderful murals made from various colored corn. Done like paint by number except with actual corn kernels, corn cobbs, etc. The theme changes yearly and inside are gift shop areas and films & displays on the history of the area. After tourist season it's the home to the Mitchell Kernel basketball team games and other community functions.

If you travel I29, you'll go right past Omaha. Omaha boasts one of the nation's top zoos in the Henry Doorly Zoo, featuring displays & exhibits that are totally unique. Someone else mentioned the Strategic Air & Space Museum about midway between Omaha & Lincon, well worth a visit. Both the zoo & the museum would appeal to kids of that age. Adjacent to the museum is Nebraska's flagship state park, Mahoney. A great place to camp, Mahoney includes a swimming pool/water park, a theater offering live melodramas, & has a lodge which serves great meals.

In Kansas City I recommend the Steamboat Arabia Museum. Independence is just outside KC and is the home of Harry Truman. You can tour his home and presidential library.

Also check out the Badlands.

On our way out form NY to the Black Hills we used Chicago as a day stop to break up the trip. We went north through Wisconsin and Minnesota. Wisconsin Dells sounds like a good place for a day or 2 as well.
