Just got back from my first VA appointment here in Sioux Falls,SD.
I had pre-registered on-line three weeks ago, checked in two weeks ago when we got here for my ID and they already had an appointment scheduled. Got my lab work done in about 10 minutes, then spent over an hour w/doctor discussing meds., treatment etc. and the fact that we travel fulltime. Doc gave me copies of my lab tests & gave me her 'business' card "If/when you go to another facility you will have to register w/that facility and if you have any problems w/treatment and/or meds. have them call me....they can get your info via computer". Ordered meds. for 90 day supply w/3 refills (Full year of meds). Sent me over to get X-Rays then to Pharmacy, Rx was filled within 30 minutes.
Everything went very smoothly.....I was quite surprised.
GF & I went to World Market to pick up some 'fancy stuff', while bent over looking at a bottle of olive oil I dropped it, bottle smashed, glass/olive oil flew everywhere, jagged bottom of bottle hit me in the forehead....2" half-moon cut so back to the VA Hospital.....straight into Emergency Room....20 minutes later, 4 sticthes & a big band-aid back out the door we went.
First time I have used a VA Facility in 34 years and I made 2 trips in one morning. All in all it went very well.

Hardtack, your experience with the VA in Sioux Falls makes me want to hitch up and head north. Sounds like you got somebody at the VA that understands our "lifestyle" and can cope with the problems we may have while traveling. Good for you!

We volunteer at a Fl state park for 4 months every winter. I use the Tampa VA and have no problems getting renewable prescriptions that cover a year. Wife calls in to renew whenever we start a script. They won't ship it right away but I always get them on time. The Dr at Tampa VA told me that you can have 2 'primary care' locations.
We have been fulltimers for 9 yrs and have had NO problems with any VA's around the country. Makes it easier if you call ahead.

I'm registered at two VA's -- one in Minneapolis, and the other in Tucson. My permanent mailing address is Sioux Falls. While I'm staying in the St. Paul area I have the Mpls VA add in a temp address in Lake Elmo, and when I'm in AZ, I have a temp address in Casa Grande. So while I'm in AZ, all my VA mail goes to Casa Grande, as well as any medications, and when in Mpls, all mail goes to Lake Elmo. When I leave either place, I terminate the temp mailing address. And, I've got a primary care doc in each place, so my list of medications has stuff from both VA's.

I've been doing this for over 4 years, and so far, it continues to work well. I've never gotten any grief about the lifestyle, other than some of the people wanting to see my RV, because they're thinking of doing the same thing.

DH only uses the VA. I use MyHealthVet online to order all his refills and they are sent to our mail forwarder (Escapees). You can change your mailing address online when needed as well as keep track of when the meds are being mailed. We have used the VA in a number of different states and you just need to register first. Most seem to understand "finally" when we explain we are living in our MH on the road. Our prime is in Indy and we go there twice a year for the BIG stuff. It is doable
