Folks: this was posted in the Mexico forum. I wrote this as reminiscing a great trip we had SOB and habit that I got used to there. It's actually a good system if you are careful (the guy might actually be turning left but you can usually tell. I KNOW no one would pass NOB on such a signal and I did not deliberately do so. Lighten up!

I was riding a motorcycle in Quebec (a neighboring province) and had a semi give me a left turn signal on a two lane highway - I passed without incident.

I too like the blinker signal system, and use it and benefit by it in our many trips around Mexico. One problem though, when you approach a road you wan to turn left on, and slow down to do so, you have to refrain from using the turn signal. Had a few close calls on this.
My other favorite Mexican traffic thing, is that the green traffic lights begin to flash before turing to a short yellow and then red. Quite efficient I think.

Belgique. Sorry, no offense intended! I saw your post in the "newest" forum and had no idea you were referring to "south of the border". That acronym usually means, to me, "some other brand" or perhaps a reference to canine parentage. Anyway, you have started a lively discussion. Certainly did not recall any of this practice from my driving "SOB", but that was several years ago.

It is not just Mexico that uses this system, but quite a few other countries around the world where I have driven. It tends to be countries with mostly 2 lane roads... and lots of really slow trucks.

In Mexico the left turn signal to pass works great. I pull a travel trailer and use the left turn signal a lot for people to pass me. Its much appreciated and I usually either get a wave as their going by or a tap on the horn. Of course being able to drive on the shoulder when their is one helps also.

Thanks guys! You're class acts! Guess SOB is familiar to me having traveled up and down I-95 and the NC/SC border for many decades and that famous motel that uses that acronym a lot in their advertising

I have never seen, read, or heard of any State Department of Motor Vehicles advise that we use turn signals to tell others which way to go!!!!!!!!!

When the vehicle ahead gives me the left turn signal, I immediately
back off. I think this could be dangerious unless the general driving public is aware of it and accepts. Thanks for the consideration, but I will determine when it is safe for me to pass.
