how does that bed saver attachment to a fifth hitch work? Does it interfere with hook ups? Is it worth buying?

In my opinion it is the best envestment you can make and if set up right it won't interfere with any thing.

It make hookups a little tighter but it is the cheapest insurance you can get. The cost of repaires is always over $1500. Take it from someone who knows.

I have one and I think it's worth every penney, there is no matinance, it just sits there, I was chatting with the neighbors when were wee breaking camp and I pulled away and was not locked in, pin fell into the bedsaver and never touched the bed, some will say if your careful you won't need it to me it was money well spent, the bed liner was alot cheaper than the deductible on my truck....

I installed mine before my first trip this year. I am always very careful when hooking up but you just never know. Some claim that they get in the way while hooking up, but if you install it correctly your pin should clear it by around 2 inches. Only problem I have had is that my emergency trailer brake cord sometimes catches on it and pulls out. I just need to find a better place to hook it to.

Only advice I'd give you is to shop around. I paid over $250 for mine (which included shipping) and later found a site for around $160, with free shipping. I do think they are way over priced for what you get, but still much cheaper than insurance deductible. Plus, consider the time you will be without your tow vehicle while it's being repaired.....

You only need one if you are not perfect as some on this forum are that will tell you you don't need one. As mentioned above very cheap insurance and piece of mind knowing that if you get in a hurry, don't check to see if jaws are locked and any number of other distractions that can happen. A hundred dollars now or if you ever make mistakes thousands latter, you decide.

If you always check and double check your connection, you should never need one, unless your hitch actually fails somehow. But if it makes you feel better, than it's worth the money.

In the 'perfect' world.....not needed!!!!
Check & recheck hook-up....maybe when you are actually getting ready to hit the road......but do you check & recheck hook-up when you have stopped somewhere during your travel (lunch at that little cafe, side trip to that little interesting spot along the way) and some jerk has disengaged your hitch, just for fun??????

One time is all it takes and BLAM......trailer drops onto bed rails damaging them & probably your trailer. $200 +/- for bedsaver; $1500-2000 for repairs to truck/trailer. No damage (just a little "Dang..anybody see that") hook back up & be on your way OR "Dang....everybody saw/heard that"....take the truck/trailer in for repairs....service shop guy say's "Ouch, dropped your trailer, should of had a BedSaver".

Pretty cheap insurance, even IF there is a little hassle when hooking up. Emergency brake away cable can get caught...just find a new spot to hook it too....doesn't take much force to pull pin so it can be attached just about anywhere. JMHO

Just remember...it may not save your tailgate from the back of the pinbox from scrapping your tailgate. Best when used with a 5'r tailgate.

I have a lock on my lever, and it takes 2 seconds to glance at the hitch before I get in to go.
