Some places I am forced to make reservations.....if it's a one-night stopover, we call ahead where we plan to stop..asking prices..what discounts they offer..what services..etc.
If there is a competition between campgrounds we take advantage of that..if the price is too high..we have been known to dry camp in a parking lot.
Yes, the campgrounds have to make a living..but if half of their sites are unused, one would think they would rather make $25 by filling one, rather than the $35 they "would like to get".
Anyway..we think a fair price for full services and no extra charges is a maximum of about $30...more than that, and it's to find an alternative.

This is why people choose WalMart and truck stops over CGs for one night. I understand the 'principle' of the thing, but you probably don't need to dump after one night anyway.

Reminds me of the 30amp/sewer/water site I paid nearly $60 for in Terra Haute Indiana for a one night stay. We had already pulled into the place and we were tired after driving all day. They charged me for the site, for the kids, for wifi and then taxed me.
Of course, it was a KOA so I guess that's suppose to be ok becuase they gave out 1 free cookie to each paying guest.........

It's Nature's Hideaway (http://www.naturesfamilycampground.com/) just south of Calgary.
I poked around and saw that the $10 for the dump station is listed on the site. I had seen that before, but honestly thought they were just charging people who needed a place to dump the tanks, but hadn't stayed there. I've seen that at most campgrounds, so that wouldn't have surprised me.
And who knows.. maybe someone has stayed there and can tell us good things about them.

It's getting pretty common in Alberta to have a "sewer dump" fee in addition to your overnight camping fee. Two places that come to mind....Miquelon Lake provincial park and Willey West campground in Drayton valley. I have no idea how many pay since I typically haul it home and dump in the Leduc area after peak hours. Please don't get me wrong as I love the two places listed above, and I appreciate that the list the fee and you can opt out if you don't need it. I guess it gives some a break rather than just upping the nightly fee for everybody. Alberta loves it's "user pay".

They may not have a lot of business and this is the way they make up for it. I would find another campground and let everyone know the name of these ripoff artists so they will not be one of their victims. Ronnie

That's why RVs have wheels...
So when you encounter a place like that, you can "keep on truckin'"!

The worst part of the whole thing (at least for them) is that we were really thinking it was a pretty park. The picture (yes.. that's singular for a reason) on their webpage makes it look really nice. If we had liked it, we probably would have quickly become regulars. For the extra $10 they wanted to charge me, they've lost at least a few hundred over the next couple Summers.
Oh well.. as long as that doesn't become the new thing to charge people for, I'll be doing okay. A place we stayed at a coupe weeks ago had a check out time of 11, but it could be extended till 2 for $10. We didn't hesitate to pay it, so it's not even the money.
We should probably all expect it. Airlines charge a lot of hidden fees. You pay hidden fees for concert tickets.. even hotels are finding lots of things to charge extra for. Guess it's just a matter of time

Not posting the name isn't helping any of us. Most of the campgrounds around here have upped their fees more than 20% especially KOA. Because of the economy, most people are taking to the campgrounds because its a cheap vacation. Everything around here is booked for the season. Supply and demand. These businesses have not learned lessons of the last year. Greed will eventually take them down.
