The feds are getting in on it too. Stayed at Joshua Tree national Park in California with our Boy Scout troop in a group campsite. After the boys left on Sun am we went to drive through the rest of the park. When we got to another entrance we had to pay an additional $15 to take a 1 Hr drive around the interior of the park as the camp ground was accessed from a different road outside the park . Paid the money since we were already there. Got back and hooked up and as leaving asked about a dump station and was told the park had a dump station at another camp ground on a different road in. We left and went to the other camp ground and when I got to the place had to go in and ask where the station was. The girl told me it was just around the corner and that the dump would cost $10. I said I had already paid for a campsite and the entrance fee but she said it's still an additional $10 even for the people stay at that camp ground. I was not a happy camper! I will not be going back there.

I have never stayed at an RV park that charges $10 per extra adult. How do these people stay in business?

the 2 i like the best are the additional fee for pets-not like the CG personal are pulling 'baggie' detail. and the 2nd one-fee if you have company. i can understand it if they are going to use the facilities but just to visit someone. this one is a double edged sword though-may keep the less than wanted visitors away. this seems to be a favorite of KOA's. check em out sometime, swear they try to nickel/dime you for anything they can dream up.

Don't make reservations, just show up and there is no booking fee. Tell them you don't need to use the dump station that it makes more sense to dump at the next truck stop and spend the $10 on fuel or keychains than pay a high fee based on a completely illogical policy. Are we at $35 a night yet?
20 amp is pathetic and I suggest the reason that A/C's are not allowed is because the electrical connections can not handle the demand. You'll be cooking by flashlight with the fridge on propane just to watch TV.
I think the prices are getting ridiculous everywhere. We paid $14 to park in a gravel lot with no hook-ups anywhere and at the edge of a noisy and busy truck route through the mountains. We were exhausted, the scenery was beautiful and we could stop driving. I guess it was worth $14 in the big sheme of things, but really - nothing but the use of an unlevel and trash ridden gravel lot? C'mon.

Sounds like places like this (assuming they have'public' bathrooms)will start adding a toliet paper surcharge for each person in your party, usage fee for the firepit (of course only firewood bought at their store will burn in it), surcharge of $20/wk for cutting the grass at your site, a road fee of $5/day for use of the roads in the cg - any bikes would have to pay an additional $1/day per bike, and of course, $5/day fee per person for the oxygen they use...on and on...
What happen to the good 'ole days??
Gone forever I'm afraid...

Hello all,
My name is Erin Reilly and I am the manager of Natures Hideaway Family Campground. I read the post and understand your concerns. I would love to be able to offer free dump stations and not charge for reservations fees and other charges, but the Septic company comes once a week and I can assure everyone that we are not making any money on the charges or the dump station....Further, A full service site that includes Septic is 40.00 a night, but a site with only power and water is 35.00 a night......So, if you stay 3 to four nights and pay a dump fee you are actually saving money......
I do apologise for having to charge a non-refundable reservation fee, but if we do not then we get overbooked and there are no sites available for customers that want to camp here.......Further, there is an administration component to the booking and reservations and this does not cover our costs, but sort of makes up for it......
I hope you can understand the costs of running a campground and appreciate that as our costs rise we do have to put those into our prices to customers........
Please feel free to e-mail your comments or concerns to myself or any of my staff at :

The state parks I have looked into im Michigan charge an $8.00 registration fee non-refundable. So for that reason I have not reserved at any of the state parks in Michigan.

Fees are becoming the normal business practice, luggage fees on airlines to name one out of RV world. We are also encountering cancellation fees of $10, shower fees, and I am quite sure dump station fees.
As pointed out by several folks and at least one campground owner their costs are rising and we the RVer's will make adjustments.
We are still getting out there and enjoying RVing.
RVing is by far the least expensive way to travel hands down.

Erin Reilly I am glad you posted but your math is skewed. I would much rather pay $40 for a full service site than $35 for a limited service site where I have to stop and dump even if the dump is included. Charging extra for the dump is crazy. You also get billed by the power company -- why not charge for power usage also? Heck -- you probably pay something for water so tack on that charge also. As for answering the phone and taking a reservation fee that seems like another way of advertising a lower rate so you can hide a fee.
If you like to advertise a lower rate and then make it back with "add-ons" then so be it. I guess we all have a choice on where we stay.
