Yeah, and have you noticed, "everyone" hates Tiger. Not saying the Tundra is the king of the hill by any means. I would put my 150 up against it any day, just because I have two years and an 8000 mile trip out in the real mountains under my belt with a truck that runs right on the edge of overload every time I tow. The numbers don`t really interest me. I know where I stand and I know I love my truck. Is it perfect? No! Is it enough to do the job and make me happy on a daily basis. Heck yeah!! And if your Tundra does that for you, congrats on being happy with your choice. Personally, I don`t like the looks of the Tundra and I don`t get a deal on the Tundra. And, dispite the fact that it`s made here, the company is foreign-owned and to me, that still means dollars going out of the country no matter how many US workers they employ. Perhaps the details of the details don`t bear out my opinion. I can live with that. Feel free to prove me wrong. If you`re happy and you know it, clap your hands (I`m clapping). Go Ford!

The disdain started years before he joined (with this user name anyway). I'd like to thank blt2ski for allowing these AM threads to go on for as long as he does before cutting them off. I think its actually slowly changing the culture towards tolerance around here.
The xenophobic posters have long closed threads with "the profits go back to Japan", "underpaid workers", or "stealing American jobs" arguments. Honda has had it almost as bad. The other foreign brands seems to get a little more leeway for some reason.
The diesel torque worshipers have long implied (or sometimes directly stated) its unsafe to tow more than a pop-up with a 1/2 ton. Arguments against Toyotas were similar to those against minivans - a wimpy not even full 1/2 ton TOYota couldn't possibly SAFELY tow even half its overstated tow rating.
I think the other 80% of posters were scared off by the attacks and kept their mouth shut or just didn't feel like standing up for a stranger on the 'net. Suggestions from a Toyota forum to ask a question on this forum usually include warnings about the "welcome reception" they should expect as a Toyota driver.
IMNSHO, Toyotas can tow just as well (or poorly) as their comparable offerings from other brands. The name plate doesn't make a difference in towing capabilities. Some of the posters have provided good arguments why AM should consider a 3/4 ton which is only available in a different brand for his particular towing needs. Some of those points provided areas for a good debate instead of just the typical brand bashing. Toyotas are far from perfect. Like the offerings from all the other brands, there's plenty of legitimate complaints to make about them without resorting to the brand/model disdain.
I have driven 2. Back in '07 my wife wanted to have a half-ton pickup to be able to pull a boat and I personally thought it would be cool to get into the first full size Toy. I drove the Toy, the Silverado and the F-150 all within 2 hours of each other. I liked the power the Tundra had, but it surely didn't feel any more powerful than the 6.0 GM and to be honest, off the line not much better than the F-150. It pulled really well through the top and that was pretty cool. F-150 didnt do that and the GM was actually right there with the Tundy on my butt-dyno. We bought the Armada in the end and frankly, the Tundra didn't seem to have much more in the grunt dept. than the Mada even though the Toy had a HP rating of 60+ more.
I didn't like the way I sat in it, I felt like headroom was limited with the seat upright and to be honest, I felt like the steering wheel wasn't "centered" to the seat. Weird I know, but that was the way it felt. The interior didn't impress either, it wasn't much better if any than my Ram interior which at the time was considered "cheap" and miles behind the Ford and GM.
It didn't help that when I pulled up to the dealer with my Cummins powered Ram, the salesman approached me as I got out and yelled "Are you ready to upgrade to a Tundra"? I could only laugh and make sure he knew the DW was interested in something to haul the kids and bikes with. After which he countered with how massive the rear-end is and how this new Toyota could tow like my Turbo-Diesel. Even after reminding him that I wasn't getting rid of my Ram he still kept making comparisons to it. Very annoying. In any case, it did compare in one way to my Ram, it rode very much like it but didn't have near the pulling potential. So what's the point? Spring it stiff but use 1/2 ton semi-floating axles? DUMB.
Drove my cousin's also, not much different other than his was a double-cab and may have actually had a little more room than my QC which isn't saying much. To be honest, I actually liked the truck somewhat, just not the marketing attached to it and how misleading it was. Marketing is bad everywhere but the hype surrounding the Tundra was nothing more than a celebration of mediocrity. It was like the ads made it out to be this super-truck when really, it was nothing much better than the others have been making for years.
Then there was the "pull-off" commercials at a local dealership where they lined up new Tundy's against other half-ton's and set it up for the others to fail. About a year ago, I took the time to stop in and offer a tow-off against the DW's Armada and they wouldn't do it. Amazingly these guys had no idea of all these "pull-offs" even though the dealership's name is all over the youtube videos of them. Class stuff I tell ya.
So your answer is, I liked the truck for what it is, but I don't like the arrogant owner of one who has to go out of his way to boost his Tundra ego and make it out to be something more than what it really is. To me, another halfer with a good engine that rides like dogmeat but doesn't have the capacity of other trucks that ride like dogmeat.

Maybe I need to upgrade my 89 1 Ton. That think rides like, well and 89 GMC 1 ton. I had an 04 1/2 Silverado that I put lots of miles on it, it rode much nicer. Maybe I will head out to the dealership tommorrow and check out a D-max or a Cummins.
Personally, I like my truck to ride like a truck.
That is to say, I like a rough bouncy ride. My Trans Am beats me up good.

I may be partially responsible because I had the audacity to report that I exceeded my rear axle rating with a big 5th wheel, something evidently only the domestic pickup trucks are capable of doing.
Not enjoining a flamefest here, and blt2ski I'm sorry if my posts dramastically increase your workload, but I'm curious if the lack of respect is predominantly due to lack of exposure, fear of something different, is it only because of one individual who expressed his experience and there were other Tundra drivers who shared his opinion, or what?
Honestly, if you want to flame me for starting this topic, it doesn't bother me and if it makes you feel better, do whatever, but I still don't get the "us vs them" mentality and not degenerate into whatever seems to happen whenever the word "Tundra" shows up in the title of a thread.
Thanks for being diplomatic, courteous, and polite; I'll try to do the same.
What's in it for you? Why don't you change your name to foreign made ... you know ... something that fits your persona a bit better. Your posts really are getting tiresome.

Yeah, I owned an '03 Tundra Stepside before I traded it for my Ram. Didn't own an RV then, I do now. I just needed a "weekend warrior" type pickup, and the Tundra served the purpose well (and with style). If Toyota had a one ton diesel "dog" in this fight, I wouldn't have bought a Dodge.

Ditto this!
I'm also tired of those that have said that the foreign haters and profit senders are out of these threads because of the attacks. I think we left these stupid...useless threads because it's akin to babys fighting over which toy they want at that moment. I'm a bit tired of trying to educate the un-educatable.
