You pay a yearly property tax for any tagged auto, trailer, etc.. in NC. I used to have to pay yearly property taxes on three vehicles, my 5'er and two utility trailers. Taxed to death and the democratic idiots in Raleigh have still spent us broke.

Its the same way here in Colorado, new license fees are a percentage of the MSRP, not what you paid for it, and equally high here, and just got higher as of July 1, and don't be late either, as the late penalties just went up as well.

We may be moving to North Carlonia some time over the next year. Anyway to get around this? Can you register your camper in another state? That will be a lot of tax every year with two vehicles and a 5th whell. Perhaps we will not move to NC.

No way to get around it. If it's registered and licensed, it's "fair
game". The idiots use MSRP and their own way to depreicate it. Sig. 5er, thank goodness is 3 yrs. old, so I don't have that "SHOCK" original poster had when I pay my personal property tax, WHICH ARE deductible come income tax time(whoopee). It is what it is.

I like it here too.

But if you own a home and pay Florida's exorbitant property tax AND insurance, LOOK OUT! I guess when the real estate bubble burst in FL they forgot to re-evaluate home values, and property insurance is out of sight! Give me the beauty of the Smokies ANY day! (JMO, of course)

Why weren't you taxed an what you ACTUALLY paid for the 5th ? Did they ignore that and make up their own numbers? I Bummer! I have been licensing my vehicles in S. Dak and saved $$$$ for years.

I plan on calling the tax office next week to see if they will reduce my tax bill based on what I actually paid. Here in NC they tax on houses, cars, trucks, boats and as you can see rv's. Needless to say this was a shock in the wallet to get this bill.

We DO own a home in FL. Property taxes are reasonable and homeowner's insurance has come down to half of what we were paying 3 years ago since the state cracked down on insurance companies.

I'll take Florida ANY day!

I paid much less than MSRP for our TT. I get taxed on the price I paid. They did have my registration all screwed up though when we bought it. They charged me for a multi year trailer tag instead of a reg travel trailer. THe tag was almost 5 times the amount of a standard tag. I did purchase this unit in VA. I don't know if that makes any difference.
