Florida is lookin better all the time. The only yearly tax on my fifth wheel is for the tag which cost $48 per year.

I like it here too.

But if you own a home and pay Florida's exorbitant property tax AND insurance, LOOK OUT! I guess when the real estate bubble burst in FL they forgot to re-evaluate home values, and property insurance is out of sight! Give me the beauty of the Smokies ANY day! (JMO, of course)

We DO own a home in FL. Property taxes are reasonable and homeowner's insurance has come down to half of what we were paying 3 years ago since the state cracked down on insurance companies.

I'll take Florida ANY day!

Just basing my info on my BIL's house in Bradenton. He built it in 1976. In 2005 it was worth about $500K and now it's worth about $270 - $290K. He pays right at $10,000 annually for homeowners insurance and property tax. Just sounded excessive to me.

Hurricanes are overrated. We haven't been damaged by one in 5 yrs.

We have not been damaged by a hurricane in like...forever. But there are those tornados, earthquakes, mud slides, wildfires. Uhh...Oh no... they don't come here either. But we have had a month and a half of rain. Temp today is 65 degrees. Sun comes out tomorrow.

Our property taxes are pretty high. But no sales or state income tax.

I could live with no sales tax.

Everyone pays one way or another... unless you're on welfare.

I would ask to speak to a supervisor. Should be valued at what you actually paid.

Not all localities charge Personal Property tax on RVs in Virginia. I live in Prince William County which does NOT tax RVs.

Also I purchased a permanent RV tag for $50 when I bought my 5th wheel and it does not have to be renewed yearly.

Georgia is the same way. Tax on my Teton previous to trading it for the Elite Suite was nearly $1900 annually. Plus, had to pay 8% sales tax on the full amount. I'm terrified to know what the Elite's bill would be as there is no rhyme or reason as to how valuations of vehicles are assessed.

Despite what most people think, Georgia's tax burden per capita is the 3rd highest in the country.

I'll go in to the tax office personally next week armed with my invoice from Lazy Days and plead my case.
