Thanks! Those were some terrific recommendations! I wasn't aware of the Motor Carriers Road Atlas or the icons at Discovery.com - guess I'll check both of those out. And, of course, I still like the Wally World Rand McNally.

We are "map people" and don't have a GPS to direct us. For the western states that we travel in, we have a Benchmark atlas for that state. We also have a Rand McNalley U.S. atlas with the spiral binding.

We had the Motor Carriers Atlas, but I didn't like it because every road that the big rigs are allowed on is highlighted and I found it difficult to pick out the details from all the highlighting. Of course, YMMV.

I wouldn't say neurotic. We too have GPS, have used Mapquest on the laptop, and have not one, but two different atlases. We learned the hard way that our GPS likes to take us the "shortest" route, and if that means going thru the mountains on a little narrow winding road with no shoulders with a 35 foot class A, well, then we use all resources available to us as a precaution before setting off. I've found now that my husband won't turn the GPS off, but does ignore many of her suggestions. Hmmmmm........
