I thought it was a cool little park back in 1994 when I camped there and yes Hellen is a neat little German like town to visit. From what I remember the spots were all back in and there was a small creek behind the sites and it was about a 5 min walk to the lake. Anyway thats just my two cents on it, if you are looking for resort amenities probably not where youd want to go but for a campground it was a nice relaxing stay.

The town of Helen is just a tourist trap, you can do it all in an easy afternoon.

IMHO: We don't care for Unicoi SP CG. The sites are close together and they're all on a bit of a slope as the interior access road has a pretty steep grade to it. It's ok, but FWIW: I'd look at any of the other state parks in the area. You'll enjoy Helen. Nice place to walk around and spend an afternoon.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

We were in Helen in April 2008. Very much like Gatlinburg if you have been there except smaller. One street with shops and restuarants. Nice creek/river running though town that in season you can float down on tubes. The state parks has some nice trails and waterfalls. All the No Ga state parks, where there are quite a few are very nice with nice campgrounds. All have special attractions of their one like mountain vistas, canyons, waterfalls etc. We really did enjoy our time in No Ga and plan on going back.

sweethomeA,
This is a nice park, alot of the sites are small but you should have not problem with your 5er, this is a state park, yes you can reserve but you can't pick you site until you get there, make sure you tell them your 5er size. There's alot to do in Helen, touristy, but keep in mind of Octoberfest and this area gets really busy and packed.
Good Luck and happy camping
