Throttle cable is like a choke cable, just a wire and conduit with a knob that you pull out or push in. The other end of the cable connects to the throttle linkage on the carburator. With a throttle cable, you can leave your foot off the gas pedal and set the cable knob at one position. The engine operates at that one speed.
I have one on my Bronco. It was a factory option I guess, it's mounted right in the dash by the choke and has the same knob on it. I used it once in a while when off roading when I had the old carb. After I put the new carb, I never hooked up the cable. It is good for creeping along at a slow speed over rocks. Sometimes the vehicle moving alot up and down cause your foot to not be steady on the gas pedal. The hand throttle stays steady.
Since SoCal has decided to respond; I am authorized to respond to his post. One thing he is wrong on is a throttle cable DOES NOT operate at ONE SPEED. Speed will vary with terrain, it will supply the same fuel at at all times.
It is typically used in Jeeps to keep you from giving more pedal that you need when in a climbing situation.
My experience with the hand throttle has been that, operating in first and second gear in the tranny and Low gear in the transfer case, the hand throttle keeps the engine rpm constant and the speed of the vehicle constant.
My experience differs from yours, most likely because, in 1st gear & low range, there is so much torque that the engine has plenty of power to overcome changes in terrain and keep it's speed fairly constant, barring butting up against a huge rock.
Out on the highway on rolling hills, I'm sure the scenario changes quite a bit and your experience sounds right to me. Different scenarios = different results.

This could turn into a giant for and against the virtues of filtration, But I will be totally honest, I will send it out and report the results if the oils still good why change it. Right now there is like 2000 miles on the oil, it is a bright and clean as the day I put in the truck. From my previous experience 10 miles and it would be black as coal.
That sounds plausible enough. Should be a good experiment, look forward to hearing the results.

That's about like mine, about 20K miles in the last 6 years, about half of those miles put on in the last 2 years. I'll outgrow the truck before it wears out on me.

I will say that BradW does have a throttle cable on his jeep
That is all the information i am authorized to give
Had you sent me a PM, I would have responded in kind. However, you made a public post, so I can only assume you would want me to respond publicly. I am sure your comment was not intended to be a Troll.
I know of no reason you cannot post your beliefs on hand throttles. I have no reason to believe you are not authorized to provide what you consider to be information. My concerns are two fold. As a Moderator, my interest is how you present your post, and to insure you follow the Forum rules and policies. As a RV.NET member, I too can post my experiences and beliefs on this and other subjects. They may or may not agree with your position.

P.S. I have a "finger" throttle on my Zuki. Do not tell anyone.

I will never divulge the secrets you and BradW tell me in a open forum, Thats why i never mentioned him having a throttle cable on his jeep.
I do not think it is fair for you to request i think carefully when I post. I do not think AT ALL when I post as that would take too much energy

It would not require much thought if you used a Cruise Control.
Souther Cal may be incorrect concerning the oil in your engine. A by pass filter, properly maintanined, (changing the element at the proper intervals) could conveivably let you leave the oil in for a very long , if not indefinite time. The key is to get it analyzed at the proper intervals to keep checking on the condition of your oil
Synthetic oil will give a much longer interval before becoming contaminated. That is what causes oil to fail. Oil does not wear out, it becomes contaminated.
Go read about bypass filters and become enlightened.
The color also does not mean anything. Heat is what discolors the oil, not necessarily the contaminants.
