Hello all,
I'm new here and have been learning a lot in the past few months.
I'm having a problem selecting a truck camper. We made the trip to our nearest "Lance" dealer after a tour in a friends TC. I have looked at just about all the brands , My wife and I both like the Lance.
I like the floor plan of the 825 , larger bathroom (Headroom) my wife likes the 815. (Dinette placement/also sink in bathroom) Overall weight is a major concern. Truck is an 2004 Chevy Z71 with supersprings. Both TC are within my weight limits , do not want to upgrade my truck for a few years.
What can I do to resolve this problem? LOL
Any additional input would be helpful about the good and bad of each?
thanks Desert

I briefly considered an 815 'till I noticed on Lance's site that the gray water from the shower drains into the 10 gal black water tank. Point this out to your wife and she'll probably suddenly like the 825 with the available 14 gallon gray water tank.
'05 Lance 845
'06 Super duty SC/SB 6.0
Usually towing an '01 Wrangler, lifted/locked on 35"s

Try the 830. More room and storage.

Isnt a chevy Z71 a 1500 series ? I had a 99 that was a 1500 . I had an extra spring added but it would not carry a lance 825 . The 1500 has a a very low payload . In 2004 was there a Z71 package in the 2500HD series ?

I just asked this same question several months ago. See this thread. I decided on the 825, partly because I got a great price on a new 2008 model.
As for the shower going into the black tank on a 815, Lance told me CampingWorld sells a bypass (to the ground) you can purchase for not much money. Good luck!

I have the 825, on a 2000 silverado 1500,the 825 is a really light small camper that was designed for light duty trucks. I haven't overloaded the truck yet...stanley

and weight.
Dry Weights
830 2240 lbs
825 1718 lbs (w/Shower, WH & Marine Toilet)
815 1878 lbs
From my research comparing the 815 to 825
Pros:
815 - Nicer interior (cabinets above dinette and in cabover vs. wire shelves in 825).
825 - More usable bath/shower, larger holding tanks, shower drains into grey tank, all aluminum framing, slightly lighter weight
Cons:
815 - smaller tanks, shower drains into black tank unless you install a bypass that lets it drain into a bucket or on the ground, wood framed walls (according to my 2008 catalog)
825 - less storage (wire rack shelves instead of cabinets).
I'm, shopping for an 825 unless I find a REALLY good price on an 815...

Why let 500 LB stop you from getting twice the floor space and twice the storage. Add an extra leaf to the springs and go. I had a 835 befor e the 1040. The 835 is to narrow. You need to have two people get in both campers and try to change clothes. We winter camp alot and there is no room for you to put shoes in the 835. Do not forget the tent. The tent has more living space then the whole entire floor space of the 815,825 and 835. You can lay your shoes boots, hats, dog kennels in the tent and not take up floor space. Have you really looked inside an 830?

500lb is a 30% of the 825's weight. Not that trivial.
I'll admit I haven't look in an 830, but for me personally that 500 lb is enough to take it off the list for my truck. With options and loaded it's likely to be well over 3000 lb. The OP also mentioned being concerned about weight.
The 830 may be a great camper for you but it's just too heavy for me. And I am speaking only for me. YMMV

I will say that I would not try to put a 830 on a 1/2 ton. No matter what add ons. 3/4 ton would be just right. The OP did not state which truck he was going with.
