Hey everyone, was getting ready to head home tommorrow after stopping in south fork tonight at fun valley. Setup camp then went to town. Well I went to put my receiver hitch back into my 2007 chevy 2500HD and it didn't fit right. After looking at it again it appears the truck's receiver hitch is bigger than 2" and had some sort of insert in it to accomadate my 2" receiver. I'm assuming its a 2.5" or 2.25" receiver with a 2" insert/adapter for my 2" receiver. Does this sound normal?its friday night on a holiday weekend and we (my family) are stranded here- can anyone please tell me the best or quikest way to fix this? Could a welding shop fabricate me something? Or do I need the adapter from someone like reese? And if so, who would carry that? Chevy dealership? Auto parts store? Or a specific hitch shop? Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer assistance/input.

Oh boy - nothing like being stranded on a holiday weekend!! Sure hope you can find someone who can help you out.
I wonder if possibly you have one of the GM hitches that has had some problems holding up to use. If it was factory-installed, that may be possible. You might want to do a search here on the forum, and on anything you can find about GM hitches, to see if that describes your situation.
Best of luck!

On the 2500HD Chevies that I have seen, there is an insert that comes with the truck that fits inside the receiver to reduce the size for your 2" hitch shaft. Do you think it came out when you removed the hitch from the receiver last?

I'll bet the adapter stayed in the receiver when you went to town after camp setup, and fell out during the trip.

While on the road & needing HELP!! I've had real good luck with weld shops, trailer shops & muffler shops......all which have equipment to fabricate metal parts. With it being a Holiday Weekend, Monday maybe your best bet....but it wouldn't hurt to check them out tomorrow (Sat.) morning.
Good luck.

Auto parts stores and ranch supply stores will often carry towing items.
Here in Longmont, Murdoch's Ranch Supply has many hitch parts and accessories.
Hope all goes well.

2.5" to 2" adapter
How far is town? I would walk it in the morning or drive real slow for a look to find that item. Maybe a U-haul would have the adapter but I don't know who is open tomorrow. RV place might be open to catch some holiday sales. I doubt an auto store would have that item.

I don't have anything useful to add about your problem but I live in Frisco TX and if there is anything you need covered on this end, let me know.

That's exactly what happened, I couldn't take it out as it was welded in, I guess my pulling weakend the welds and the jarring into town did it in and broke th remaining welds and there it went. Just called 5 places within 200 miles of here and all are closed till monday due to the 4th.
