DW & I are preping the Bounder for a short stay at her sisters house (Where the RV is stored)
It seems that the overgrowth of trees had obstructed the sun from reaching the solar charger and the bats have bit the dust.
Lesson learned, never take a BIL word when he says' all is well with your rig!
(Looks like I will be making the trip back up here on a regular basis again huh??!!)
As it stands, I would like to replace the 4 Trojan 105 Bats as they are beyond salvation.
I am interested in what any of you, guys & Gals who have changed out all four in the past have gone with or if there is anything out on the market worth looking into.
(I use GSM bats in my Class B but the DW does not want to go the extra expense for a rig that does not get much use!)
I will be recharging the two commercial bats and trying to clear a view of the sun for the solar panel .
(Hey any way to connect a secondary panel or move the one on top off the rig to direct sunlight?)
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Oh yeah I already got the "You, SHOULDA, COULDA, WOULDA" speech from the DW in spades, so constructive input Si'l vous plait.
I only had 50% of your needs, as our T28 had to T105's. When I replaced my units, I ended up using the T120's. Same foot print, so they fit, just a bit taller, so had to get longer bolts. They provide a bit more reserve capacity. And when I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago, they only cost me about $15 more each...
But, let me ask you. Do you dry camp quite a bit, or are you usually plugged in? If you are not dry camping, you might just go with the golf cart units from Costco or Sam's. Many people go this way, for the cost. Not sure how long they are lasting, but at the much lower cost, replacing them a year or two early, may not be too bad.
If you have power available at your BIL. Then the other thing I did with our T28, is add a battery disconnect and Battery Minder. I put one for the house, and one for the chassis. I plug these in while in storage, and don't need to worry about over charging. Forget the model on our unit, but it did not include the wizard that will float the power as needed. So, while on extended plug in thru the coach power, I also use the battery disconnect, and use the Battery Minder via a separate extension cord.
If you don't have power at the BIL, then you might think about pulling them and keeping them at your home on a maintenance charger? A PITA to take them in and out each time, but if it is in storage for long periods, may be another way to go...
