Been searching for a while and found on this morning on craigslist.

1999 29FT JAYCO CLASS C MOTORHOME 18K MILES ((MUST SEE))ROOF AIR DASH AIR GEN.AWNING SLEEPS 6 REAR QWEEN BED EVERYTHING WORKS RUN'S AND DRIVE'S GREAT VERY CLEAN TO MUCH TO LIST.ASKING $16900 OBO

Well I made it out there first everything looked good and the guy sold it to me for 16k! feels like a new rv!

After I got it home I looked it over, only found 2 issues

-electric step not working as expected, there's a little 2 wire piece at the bottom of the door that seems to be misfunctioning, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

-the roof in the front by the cab front has cracks, looks like they tried to fix. So I'll have to seal it, rv came out of Nevada in last 2 months so not too worried ...but in Washington this will have to be fixed by the end of summer.

has anyone had issues with their electric step sensor, or have any advice on how best to seal the cracks?

Also if there's a recommended list of stuff to have in your RV or a greatest hits of northwest RVing I'm all ears!

Thanks
Sean

Welcome Sean. Sounds like you got a great girl there. User her locally every chance you can get like watching a fire works show tomorrow night, go shopping ou out to eat, etc. The minor issues will work to the surface and so you can work through them. Do you have any service records?

Sounds like a nice unit. The step should be an easy fix. Sometimes the screen door gets out of alignment or the sensor isn't positioned correctly and can't sense the magnet that activates it. Try moving it closer or align it to see if it' helps.

Class C overhead bunk areas are notorious for seams leaking and rotting the structure; usually from lack of maintenance. Before you just fix a crack in the roof do some probing around the interior and under the bed area and see if there's moisture present.

Either way, an inspection of the exterior roof should be first on the agenda. Look for missing or cracked caulk along the seams remove it and reseal whatever needs it. A search on the C forum should give you more specifics on what you're facing.

Good luck and have fun.

Seal over the cracks with Eternabond roofing tape. A accepted permenant repair.
I am sure others here have used it to seal leaks.

Congrats ! Welcome to the club.

EternaBond tape on the roof seams that can not be seen. I would f1rst clean seams, then use a caulk like Proflex RV and then EternaBond tape.

Look at his post How to Reseal Good information and if you follow resealing looks like it came from the factory (or even better!)

check Kwikee Stepsfor a solution on your steps. It will give troubleshooting and bench checking solutions. You might just have your steps jammed. Try lubricating all of the moving parts of your steps.

Thanks for all the help played around with the step for an hour, I think its a short in the sensor. when i squeeze the door sensor it will engage. for now I've switched the step off (at the panel with the light switches, etc) just so it doesn't chop someone at the knees.

If I put a normal inline switch in the place of the magnetic one could I just use that? truth be told the whole automatic magnet thing seems a bit much (remind me of this when i accidentally rip it off in motion...)

I picked up 4 tubes of roof leak repair at walmart, was in the rv section (red tube, can't remember the name)Put it over the cab cracks up front. other than it being black it looks good. Main concern was if it rains later this week I need to be sure I'm sealed (Seattle...) . still planning to get the roof professionally checked, but figure this is a great sanity test.

Thanks
Sean

Welcome, and THANKS FOR BEING THE FIRST TO CONFIRM I WAS NOT CRAZY and that the sensor can get a short - likely due to dust.

For instance...and we never hear what actually worked.

It just occurred to me you should squirt it THOROUGHLY w/ CRC electrical cleaner spray, and I bet she is fixed...I will do that to mine.

(I've been sounding off this for a long time w/ NO confirmations.
