I posted in tech section and had no response, maybe you can help.
I have a chance to buy an in motion sat dish manufactured by KVH. Google shows it as a "Marine application" and I believe that it is from the early 2000's, 01 or 02.
My current sat dish is a "locator type" stationary use only. It works like I camp, now & then! Parts are not available to fix it.
I know this will not pick up HD channels, but neither will my two TV's. I can get this from a friend for a couple hundred bucks.
We have the in-motion L3. Have had it since early 05 and use it constantly since we're full timers. No problems and finally had it updated in May 09 for a cost of $135. We do use it sometimes going down the road.
I bought a KVH stationery in 2003. It worked great with the DircTV tuner that was available then. It used a typical phone cord from the DireTV receivers "low speed data port" to identify the correct satellite.
After a while DW got tired of living in the MH and bought a condo for me to move into. The DirecTV was not used much so I closed the account. Comcast gave me bonus for the condo if I turned in the DirecTV receiver.
A year or so went by and I decided to convert the condo to DirecTV and hook up the MH again.
I discovered that the old KVH required the "low speed data port" and the current DirecTV receivers don't have that anymore.
I fixed it with the credit card. I put a new KVH in motion on and a new DirecTV receiver. Works good.
Before you spend money, make sure you have a receiver and antenna that are made to go with each other.
