I have a odd condition with my air conditioner that I cannot handle.
On my year old Jayco I have a CHILLGRILLE Coleman-Mach air conditioner, either # 8330C63 or 8530B63 flush mount ceiling assembly.
This unit works great on the house power (120 Volt). It does everything it is supposed to do. However......
On my Yamaha 2400EF generator it is a different story. When I turn on the air on the thermostat the generator speeds up like expected but the air conditioner does not start at all. After about twenty seconds of fast running the 2400EF goes back to idle and the red overload light comes on.
I bought this Yamaha 2400EF because my Honda 2000EU does not have the
power for running an air conditioner. I wonder why the 2400EF cannot start this air conditioner.
I am sure we have some guys on this forum that can handle this kind of a problem, I sure cannot get it to work. Your suggestions are like always very welcome and I'll try them right away. Thanks for your time.

Is your AC a 13,500 or 15,000 btu? My Yamaha runs my 13,500 btu fine.

If you have the one I got, with the little surge ability, you can do it but understand you're PUSHING IT with A/C on this gennie.
Some suggestions:
-Make sure the gennie is set to full throttle, not variable/eco mode
-Don't have another thing on in the RV, not a light bulb
-Turn the A/C to fan first and give it a minute
-Then go to low cool
Good luck

Forgot to add when/if you get the A/C going you can turn on some lights and other things...the main issue is the huge surge...but too much and you'll blow it, unlikely you will run the microwave and the a/c simultaneously...or a hair dryer, or large TV...etc.

I don't think the old A/C's are efficient as the later ones. It must create a greater power surge to get it going, more than your Yamaha can handle.

You've got the power to KEEP the A/C running, you just don't have the capability to handle the peak watts that the A/C requires to start up.
And you'll run into that surge issue over and over as the compressor cycles on and off.

I'd like to know the specs on your AC. What year is it? 13.5 or 15K btu?
My Yamaha 2400 runs the AC without hesitation.

While waiting to get some responses on my request I did the following:
I ran the Yamaha EF2400 and hooked up two 1500 watt space heaters. After about ten seconds the Yamaha had the red light come on and went back to idle. This is an understandable condition with 3000 watts so I changed one space heater for my circular 13amp saw and the combination of heater and saw ran forever.
So the Yamaha has the power but the air conditioner might be too heavy.I have not checked on the wattage of the A/C and I cannot find any power data in the paperwork.
I have the A/C now running on shore power and maybe that will loosen it up somewhat since it is brandnew. Also when I tried to run the A/C off the Yamaha I had all other breakers on off and started the A/C first with the blower like it was suggested. Did not work.
So back to day one and try some other stuff. Thank you guys for your good inputs, sure appreciate that.

As mrradio says, do not use economy position. Set to full throttle and give it another try.
