Having problems keeping the fridge from freezing. Any ideas. Also curious how this automatic thermostat works.

My thought is maybe I have too much stuff in it and is effecting the sensor somehow???

I do not have the temp select option like my older camper had, it only has an Auto or Gas option button. There is a plastic piece that looks like it attached to a fin on the fridge coil section but I do not know how it was supposed to attach.

Dandy. You have found your problem. That plastic sleeve clips to the extreme right fin. Attach it somewhere near the middle an see how your temp goes. Move it up for cooler, down for warmer, I think, may have that backwards. Need a thermometer in your fridge, should be 37-42 degrees.

General information that I posted awhile back that explains and will give you the info which will be useful.

RE: Refrigerator
Look for two switches...
" I " is on and " O " is off on the switches. The low ambient switch when in the ON position keeps the interior refrig. light ON at all times when the reefer itself is turned on. If you have this switch turned on, your refrigerator compartment (not freezer) will stay warmer then it would if the switch was off. More on the reefer and reefer switches..... Regarding the amount of electric that is used by your refrigerator.... You can cut down electric use of a refrigerator by turning the refrigerator door warmer off unless you absolutely need it to be on. Go to your refrigerator, open the door and look for the switch at the base of the door. Turn it off. This door warmer can be a source of electric usage when you think you have everything in the rig turned off. This from the Dometic service manual:

AND........... Regarding your refrig... In the past I did some internet research on "thermistor" placement in Dometic reefers found in RVs. My research gave me the following info.. Research indicated the thermistor location set at the factory is usually the on the last fin on the right as you look at the reefer. Move it up for cooler and down for warmer. IF you move it, move it in small, small increments and allow 24 hrs. for the reefer to adjust temperature in relation to the move of the thermistor. Takes 24 hrs. for temp to stabilize. Also from info gleaned on the internet, the right side of the cooling fins, as viewed from the from of the fridge are the coldest, therefore moving the sensor a fin or 2 to the left may help those whose reefers are NOT cold enough.

Oh, in regard to your in refrigerator thermometer, place it in the center (top to bottom, side to side).

A positive device to have is a small electric or battery powered fan in the bottom of the reefer that circulates the air in it. Having a fan like this will help keep your reefer from having uneven temp. ranges in it.

Just thought I would update all incase this happens to anyone else.

I found the sensor at the bottom of the fridge and off the plastic clip.

I reattached the sensor to the clip and placed it back onto the fin section of the fridge.

All is better now. Thanks for the replies.
