Ladies!

Being new to rv'n, I am having trouble directing my husband as he backs into sites with our 28' TT. HELP!!! I find that when the TT and the truck aren't in line he can't see me in his mirror when I stand toward the back and when I come around so that he can see me, I can't see the back of the trailer to direct him. Then ,of course, you can imagine what's next! Any advice would be so welcomed.

Thanks!

Not a Lady, but!
As the spotter, you must stay in contact. Visual is best. There is the family radios that work when you are out of sight. There is some now that are voice actuated with headsets and boom microphone for ease of operation.
When backing in, the spotter should stay on the rig's drivers side for best visibility.
When in doubt stop the operation and talk directly with driver. Works both ways.
Practice! Practice!
Pull throughs are nice!

You need to always stand where he can see you in his left mirror. Go slow.

If he is not real good at backing a trailer here is a tip that sometimes helps. Tell him to place his hand on the BOTTOM of the steering wheel. Holding the wheel at the bottom the back end of the trailer will go the same direction as his hand. If he moves his hand to the right the back of the trailer will go to the right and the same for left.

2-way radios will easily and quickly solve the issue you are having. They are great!

Also, the vocabulary is limited. Pretty much "crank it left", "crank it right", "follow it back" and "let's start over".

Before we back out we both walk the site and figure out where we want to put it.

2-way radios allow me to stay in contact without him having to see me and I can watch the trailer, trees, etc.

My DW and I have been doing this for years. Ditto on the radios. We use a cheap pair of walkie talkies so we dont need eye contact. We started out with the "further left" "further right" thing and that just didnt work. Now, DW's main job is just to yell stop if I'm about to hit anything. Other than that, I dont really need directions. Works for us.

Well Dolly this is a first for mankind. A laddy admiting. My DW says I do it better without her help. The easy way to guide is to establish the correct hand signals and to stand with your back to the trailer.I cheat, I have a small piece of tape on the rear window and a piece on the trailer centered when the two line up I am close.

Take your time and go slow, both of you have to be patient is the key. Hubby should stop and stay put until you get back in his line of vision so you can direct him from there.

Instead of shouting at each other we use hand signals.

Stop...
Slow...
Back up...
Forward...
Left...
Right...
Back just a little more...

Agree on your hand signals, you will get the hang of it with practice. If I need to tell him something I make him stop and go up to the window to tell him, or have him get out and do a quick spot check where we want the rig.

When approaching our site, I always have a good look at what obstacles there are. My Wife does not direct me, She just watches from the side but away so I don't hit anything including her while backing in. Once I'm in then I'll have a look to see if I need to move to the right or the left, or if I need to back up some more. Never had a problem yet, and yes back in slow.
