Hello everyone, We have been in Yellowstone and the Tetons for the last week and half and are starting to head home. We are staying in Tetonia on the west side of the Tetons about 40 minutes from Jackson Hole. When looking at the map it says to go through Teton pass and down to Jackson Hole then head down 191 to I80.
I don't really want to go through the Teton pass as it has 10% grades and is killer on Big Rigs. We are heavy and pulling. I found a route on route 26 that goes through a valley and hooks up with 191 south of Jackson Hole.
My question is has anyone driven 191 and 26? Otherwise my last option is to go south on 89 and connect to 30 to I-80. I am just looking for some help on which is the best pass. We came from the north side to get here and it was not bad.
But I have never driven a 10% grade only 7% and that was hell!
We went 191 south from the Tetons through Jackson and on down to US80. Our 42' DP had no problems that I can recall, however, we weren't pulling or loaded. Check in the Routes forum.
If you are worried about grades then I would advise you use the interstates. Go west on Idaho 33 to US 20 south to Idaho Falls then I15 south to Ogden then I80 East to Rawlens. The interstates I believe have 5% or less grades. There are no grades on Idaho 33 and US 20 on the route I suggested.
We had just left Jackson last week and did the Teton pass in our DSDP. We did it and I' m glad we have an engine break but I wouldn't recomend it especially if you have something in tow. We went back another way around and of added about 80 or so miles but no stress as compared to the Teton Pass.
