This is the periodic Dog posting. Yes there are really dog haters out there....How about this one, I was taking a nice walk around a small lake the other day and stepped in DEER poop, darn. Walked a little farther and stepped in Racoon poop, double darn. There was poop all over the place, but no dogs. I guess they'd better ban all animals from these RV parks.

We travel with 4 dogs (30#) and have never had any problems. Well, unless you consider the fact that we can't walk them more than 25 yards without being accosted by kids and adults that want to pet them and play 20 questions.
I book most sites on line so occassionally see campgrounds that limit the number of dogs (rarely ban all dogs) and that is their right. We just don't go there.
Last month we went to Fishermens Memorial SP in RI. When I checked in the girl at the office asked if I had pets and I replied 4 dogs. She replied "You're only allowed 2 and I need to make copies of their vaccinations." I asked which 2 she wanted to make copies of and her reply was "Whichever 2 names you write on the form." I went to the truck and broght in the "dog book" with all their paperwork. She made copies of 2 shot records and I assured her that the other 2 that didn't exist were vaccinated as well.
We had a secluded site and walked them in pairs (they all look pretty much alike), except for the last night.
I do agree that campground owners have the right to set their rules and campers have the right to go where they choose, whether they like dogs or not.

Yup... This is the semi-occasional dog thread. Where anyone that complains about dogs is automatically labeled a dog-hater, while others try to change the subject and talk about other campground nuisances.
The real problem is the dog owner. The dog is just being a dog. But the dog lovers on here will never see how THEIR dog could be a problem.
We have a friend that thinks it's cute when her Schnauzer 'talks' to her. She gets upset when her DH tells her to shut the dog up. She has no clue how annoying that piercing bark is to others.
I also wish that posters would post the name of these "No Dogs Allowed" campgrounds so that I could frequent them. I am not a dog hater or a pet hater we have pets and I often dog sit for my mother while she travels.
we bring our dog with every time. She is "always" on a lead unless one of the kids leaves the RV door open. And yes she does bark usually when another dog walks by. I do my best to keep her quiet and for the most part you dont even know she is there.
Alot of people wont go to a CG that doesnt allow dogs. Makes sense. What about the flip side. People bring their dogs camping. Always have always will. If you dont want to hear dogs bark (thats what they do you know) or are too stupid to avoid stepping in dog poo go to a CG that doesnt allow dogs.
Problems solved!
A couple of days ago a guest asked me to go up to his site with him. He proceeded to show me his water hose which was nicely coiled next to the water spigot. On top of the hose was three separate piles of dog doo. You could tell some was fresher than others. He told me he saw his neighbor just let the dog out of the trailer and do his business. He even mentioned to the neighbor what happened and the guy just shrugged. I bought the guy a new hose and told the neighbor to go to a more dog friendly campground (actually told him to pack and leave for repeated rules violations). Over the past few years we have had three water lines broken from people tethering their dogs to the lines. We had on little girl bitten by a dog ($300.00 emergency room visit, $150.00 comped stay at the park). A dog nearly killed by another dog ($200.00 vet visit, $20.00 in gas to drive the bleeding dog to the vet, $100.00 comped stay at park, Guest left early, refunded $150.00 for early departure). I was not able to collect a dime from the offending parties. I can't begin to tell you the number of complaints about barking dogs in RVs we get from other RVers and some of the calls come at 3 AM. Insurance premiums have risen because we allow dogs, even though we have never filed a claim. Certain breeds are now exempt, meaning if they are in the park and cause harm, insurance will not pay. People lie constantly about the breeds, telling us they are a 70 lb "heinz 57" when in fact they are 125lb rottwiellers. Personally, we love dogs, our campground has a dog sitting service and dog owners are a big part of our business, but I can see the writing on the wall that we may be forced to alter our dog friendly policies in the future.
Of all the complaints people have on here, the only one I have complained about myself is dogs not on a leash. I've seen MANY responsible dog owners, but there seems to ALWAYS be one that isn't every time I go somewhere. My guess is that some of them are just fed up with dealing with the 1% that create problems.

Well there you go! A perfect example of the dog-owner attitude. You'll notice, of course, that HER dog is only occasionally a problem. Yeah, right!!

Exactly the issue is not that the dog owners should follow the rules and clean up after their dogs. The issue is that non dog owners are to stupid to avoid stepping in the mess.
