The Dometic AC on my 2006 trailer no longer cools.
First off, Arizona is a miserable place in July!
Two weeks ago, while packing for a trip, the AC cooled just fine (connected to 30 amp shore power). Five days later, while unpacking at home, connected to the same power, the AC blew nothing but hot air.
Fast forward to today. Packing for another trip and the AC still does not work (as if the two week rest was going to change anything). I took a laser thermometer in the trailer and pointed at the ceiling, a crisp 108 degrees. I then moved it next to one of the AC vents, 108 degrees.
The fan comes on fine, then when I move the thermostat switch to the 'cool' position, I can hear the AC unit kick on (is this the compressor I'm hearing?).
Any thoughts?
Anything that requires getting on the roof to inspect will have to wait for cooler months.
Sounds all to familiar! Is the compressor running? If so, you have no freon in the unit. I just went through all this. All I can tell you is good luck! Your unit is warrantied for 3 years on parts. When in 06 did you buy it? You will need to bring it to an authorized Dometic service center if it is still under warranty and they will do an amperage test to verify that it indeed has no freon. They verified all my readings that I took and I was spot on. They called Dometic for me and got me another unit. Keep in mind, that the warranty covers parts only. So you will either have to swap it out yourself of wait for your service center to do it for you and then pay them. I just got my new AC yesterday after waiting 1 1/2 months. The Dometic warehouse burnt down, so they are way behind. A local dealer near you may have a unit on the shelf that he will swap out, but I doubt it. THey know that parts are hard to come by and mine wouldn't do that. You may get lucky. The swap is pretty straight forward. The new unit will only be the top section, your control box, and cover will remain. The nice thing is that the new unit has a glossy fiberglass cover where the old one had the softer textured cover. The new unit is also quieter. Good luck! If you have any questions, feel free to ask....... we can actually go on our first camping trip this summer! Leaving Friday AM at 10!

I'm fairly certain, what I hear is the compressor. The fan is definately running with no problems. When I move the switch on the thermostat from the 'off' to the 'cool' position, I hear a motor type noise from the roof mounted AC unit. What else would I be hearing besides the fan and the compressor?
Unfortunately, the trailer was purchased in June of 06. I wonder if Dometic would even hear me on this one.
It's worth a shot....but I wouldn't wait another day! Look them up an the web or get their number from your owners manual. They are really a great group to deal with. If you have a ''go between'' it might be a little easier....such as a dealer or repair facility. I had great luck calling them directly. Have the model number and serial number for the unit. You can get these by removing the filter inside and looking way up on the housing. Also have the VIN number of your trailer ready along with model. Most of these manufactures are a dream to deal with. Good luck, let me know how you make out. Call them TOMORROW!
Not sarcasm at all. I am serious. I have delt with Dometic and Thetford on numerous occasions. They are really helpful and send parts out quickly if it is in stock.
Your other option is to pay for it yourself and get it done now. You can chose Coleman, Dometic, or Carrier. Depending on the options you have on your AC and route you chose is going to determine the cost. Your Dometic AC, if a 13,500BTU unit, is right around $700. Take your pick. You can always scour online for a better deal. Add the cost of installation, unless you chose to do it yourself..... more than likely about $300 and your up to $1000. It would be beneficial. to call Dometic if it were me
