Here is my replacement 12v tv/dvd project. I still have to do some cable management, thinking of drilling down and wiring the cable under storage and up to tv. Then when I take it down from it's mount to put on the table the wire will be against the window and not hanging down in the way.

Old TV

Old DVD and VCR

Old Storage

New TV

New DVD in TV

Cleaner Storage

Recovered Storage

New Storage

take the tv stand off the bottom for a cleaner look. I would also run wires through the cabinet door. I hate to see wires.

What type and size of 12 volt tv did you get? How is it working so far. We want to do the same thing in our rig...

Thanks

Robin,

The TV is 15.6 LCD with DVD. I was thinking of a bigger 19" but thought the 19" would be just too big in the area that we have. So far the TV/DVD is great, the kids watch movies on the way to a spot and then at night time to wind down to sleep. The power consumption was reduced a lot by not running the invertor, dvd & old tube TV. The only issue that I am having is that at some spots on the dvd it stops making sound but the video is running, this occurred when we had the tv in our car for a coast trip. I am thinking that either it's the dvd's, wire connection to the cig outlet, or the bumping in the car. But no issues in the RV though.

Below is a link to the 12volt site where I bought the tv.

Where I bought it

Have a Great time, Robert.

Robert, thanks for getting back to me. That is about the size I was thinking of too. Our rig isn't to big and that would work great.

Can you tell me if there is a video out put to hook up another monitor to run off the same DVD, we have just a monitor up in the cab over for the kids to watch right now...

Thanks again,
Robin

I am new to the RV world. I am planning to get a 19" tv and use an inverter to convert 12v to 110v when I am dry camping. Does the inverter draw a lot of current from the battery?

geoeagle,

Each inverter might be different on how much is draws but I would think there is not much. It's when you start adding them all up it's starts to drain the battery. I think the biggest drainer was the stock 13" tube tv then dvd player then the inverter. Mine is the Sears Diehard 400w, which has nice options to it. I will keep it in case I need it. I mounted it up on the wall in the cabinet out of the way.

Also I Winter camp/ski and using the heater is the #1 drainer in a RV. I could go for 2 nights and 3 days with my batteries. Now I have a little more room.

Good luck and safe camping, Robert.
