I just contracted for an annual site at Rondout Valley Resort in Accord, NY. (We have been members there since April 1999.) My DW & I prefer to not travel for now & really enjoy our campground and the local area even though it's only 50 miles away. Our cost $2975 including cable + electric. For us the hassle of set up and break down is worth it. We can enjoy shorter weekends or weeklongs. We will also be there during the winter as desired and this is New York so our Extreme Winter Package will be put to the test.

We are still employed though my DW will retire next year I still have at least 5-6 years of Full Time Employment. Maybe then we can try Part Time Road Camping.

What have others done?

Alas... it's the lead mule that gets a change of scenery. I still have the urge to see what's around the next bend. But, I don't begrudge you for sitting a spell. Might reach that point someday, myself. Have fun and enjoy!!

That is such a beautiful part of NY, my DH was brought up in Accord. We also met at the Granit Hotel which is no longer named that. He was the Golf Pro there for 19 years. I would love to be able to be up there for the summers again. We did that for 7 years, but had a house there on Stone Dock Golf Course in High Falls (a great little town near by) which we ran for 7 years.
We had our MH in a seasonal site last summer, I liked the idea that we didn't have to drive every weekend and it made us go and use it. Be careful one Friday night when we got there, when I went it there was a very bad smell. Come to find out there had been an electric outage during the week and our site never came on. Everything in my fridg was runied and the smell was something I never want to smell again, there were maggots and it tooks hrs to clean. I also had a hard time getting the smell out of the fridg.

We tried a seasonal site in 2005 when we had a TT. Although it was very convenient, DW and I both agreed that we had to much "Gypsy" in us.

We have never been to Rondout Valley. We live in Dutchess County also & have been looking for a not to far weekend get away campground for a long time. It is clean? Is it hard to get a site for the weekend? We thought about going seasonal this year but it has to be the right park & distance from home? I like your fifth wheel, my husand & I want to get the Bristol Bay bunk house-maybe in a couple of years.

We have been at a seasonal site for about 5 years. The site is in a RV park and close to home. Reason; My yard is not large enough to have a 5th wheel parked on it, so we purchased a site the next county over with full hookup just to use as a place to store our rig and use it some weekends. As it turned out we made many friends at the park and traveled less until we reached a time that I needed to replace my truck and you guessed it, I have not done that yet. Many other factors in our decision to stay put are; the hours I work along with the hours my wife works-we have very little time other than weekends for now. I also have a son at a University "which I am paying all expenses" and a daughter who just got married, which was not cheap either. So bottom line is time and money dictate that we stay put for a while but yes the itch is their and building to travel again.

We would like to try the seasonal spot but I would still maybe want to go away sometime our local favirite campground told me if I want a seasonol spot there they would make sure it would be a spot that I coulud get in and out of with ease, even if he had to make a new spot, but we have not done it yet.

This is our fifth year as seasonals. It works for us! It's 45 minutes from the house, and the pontoon is parked a stone's throw from the TT. It's on a chain of lakes, and we're still discovering new bays. We've made lots of new friendships. It works for us right now.

When we do travel it's usually by air because our nearest kid is over 1,000 miles away!

Can't imagine sitting in once place for a season, at least not yet. I was the sole caregiver for my father for about 3 years before he died this spring, and I am really looking forward to hitting the road again. Have to admit though, that it probably won't be easy, because we used to travel together. But I think staying home or sitting in one place right now would be worse.
