Thanks guys.
She has a 3 speed slap stick that I can run up to 7,000 RPM and then shift. I don't do this often because it scares the hell out of me!

Work !!! You guys are playing.
I had three 3500 DRW 454's in commercial service at one time. We ran all three at (legal) 28000-31000 GCW with combined plates. These trucks were on the road delivering equipment/material to our in state/out of state job sites. Yeah, that was in the late '70's and early '80's. They were the work horses for LDT trucks till GM came out with the 6.5 DD and later the 8.1 big block.
Running one at those loads would have the exhaust manifolds cherry red to white hot at nite. They ate spark plug wires and starters like they enjoyed them. Generally they averaged 4-6 mpg which required a extra fuel tank in the bed.
The carburated versions responded well to tuned exhaust headers/dual out and better flowing intake manifolds which really increased hp and more importantly torque for moving our heavy loads.
I'm a diesel guy now but still like to hear any of the big blocks at 3500-3800 rpm hauling heavy loads with half burned out big bore glass packs. That even had Harley riders looking.
The old 454 along with Fords 460 made lots of folks a living hauling heavy loads back then.

The 28k-31k was combined (Truck and trailer). Actualy 15k-20k for a trailers gross weight is about all a 3500 DRW will take if you plan on any long term reliability/durability. We still were limited to the trucks axle and tire capacities.
