Hello. We just took ownership of a 2010 Roo 23B and had a question about battery. I believe that the battery will continue to drain just sitting in our driveway because the LP detector is still drawing power correct? The question is, how do you keep the battery from dying when your trailer is not in use? Do you keep it plugged in at home? Do you disconnect the battery somehow? I will not be going out on a trip until late August and am affraid that I might be doing damage by leaving things the way they are. HELP!

Regards,
JT

I leave mine plugged in year around, check the water periodically.

Others on this site have battery shut-off switches.

Or you can simply unplug your battery, least appealing.

Your right, the detector and electronics will drain the battery. I use a battery disconnect switch to isolate it.

sorry for the rookie question, but what is a disconnect switch and how do you do that?

Same thing happened to us. We got the battery cut-off switch for around $15 at the local RV store. You put it in-line with the negative cable and turn it off when in storage. I just checked mine today after a week of sitting and it is still showing full!

This is the one we got.

you can also use a battery minder or tender. it is a battery charger that maintains the charge on the battery and does not boil the water out.

I just pull one fuse in the converter panel. It disconnects propane detector and tiny fridge drain also. Works great and simple to do.

The radio/dvd/tv/cd player will draw a huge amount of battery power on the 23B. We sometimes pull the fuse to the radio in our 23B and the battery will last more than a week. If we leave our radio fuse in, the battery will be drained in 3 days tops.

you can also get one at Walmart in the battery section in automotive.
it mounts on the battery terminal and has a green knob that you simply turn in one direction to disconnect the battery.

costs about $4.

the best setup is a marine battery switch mounted on the battery box or frame. but it's much more expensive. i'm sure Chuck will post a pic of his.

since you are a new member, there's already a thread on the same subject that was posted on the 15th. here's the post's subject:
"So what drains battery so much more than pop-up?"

using the search function will sometimes get you the answer quicker than waiting for others to respond.
