Balsam Mountain Campground will probably be the easiest to find for out of state folks it is just a short distance of the blue ridge parkway but still in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park the end of August has been proposed a alternative would be the week after labor day during the week, or weekend of Sept. 11 through the 13 th ok lets get a for sure date.

Mt Pisgah would be a good campground. At 4980 ft elevation it one of the nicest campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They take reservations and have several first come sites. No electricity but they have bath houses with showers. Here is the web site.

They must have just added them, because they didn't have them before. Good! Now Crabtree Meadows CG may get some too!

Thanks for the info,
Brad

Are you sure about that?

I have not stayed there since they redone the bath house, but when we were there last the park ranger was telling us they were going to upgrade to showers. I think that was in late 08 or early 09 when they upgraded. Some one since has told me they had put showers in. A phone call to the park ranger to be 100% certain would be a good idea.

Now I opened my big mouth and let this secret out!! This was a great campground before they had showers, now I think it will stay full all the time. It's a nice campground to beat the heat in the summer.

We drove through the campground (Mt Pisgah) a month or so ago and they had completed the shower house in one loop (the tents only loop). They had started building the new shower house in another loop but it was not finished. The host said it would be late in this season or next year before it would be completed. I agree Mt Pisgah would be a great place to have the Truckcampobree in the summer. They have a great dump station and fresh water fill station.
