When we were looking for a PUP 5-years ago, there were four dealerships that sold them in our area. Now, it's down to one. The place where we bought our PU decided just in the past month or so so not sell PUP's anymore because they're getting too expensive. They told us for nearly the same price we could get a small TT.
We don't want a small TT!!
Anyone else seeing this trend in their area?

Sign of the times! RV manufacturers are also closing, merging, or having to severely tighten their belts. This trickles down to the dealer since there was all kind of help from the factory, such as buying back inventory after they have been on the floor too long. Most all factory financial support has dried up and along with the drop in consumer demand many dealers experienced negative cash flow and either went into bankruptcy or just closed the doors. Like the auto industry, there are going to be fewer dealers around everywhere in the near future.

We experienced the same when we were looking. One point that the dealers couldn't argue: Can't get a canoe on top of a TT!

Some of it has to do with shipping costs. We had to drive out of state to get our tent camper. No one in Florida would sell them because the shipping costs were too high. (not that there is not a demand for this model, because I believe they would sell more if they could get dealers to carry them).

They're the lowest profit items on the lot and take the most time to set up, move around the lot and demonstrate. I think it's probably that simple-a lot of dealers don't want to mess with them.

I have heard from a local dealer that i bought my fleetwood pup up from that since ftc inc took them over and have the coleman name back that the dealers have no negotiating on price anymore they must first contact ftc inc. to ask them what they can sell the pup for ???? This dealer of course dropped ftc (coleman) and is no longer carrying them after 25 years!!! I cant believe that this is true but Im not sure about every single detail but thats called screwing with not only the dealers but the customers too to me. Not sure how true this is but take is as you like

With the trucks looking like cars inside, more people are driving them and they easily pull small TT, plus the trend to bring home with you when you are roughing it means the TT is currently much more attractive to more people. Now if the government cash for clunkers takes off, a lot of people will be driving smaller cars and the popup may resurge like it did when cars downsized before.
