Need some input from RV'ing buddies up North. DW wants to make loop around the Great Lakes in the Spring. We are looking at traveling from Tronto to Duluth in the April 20th to the 30th time frame. My concern is snow melt turning to ice at night and having to pull my 5ver on it. Looking for advice and input on the usual road conditions at that time of year.
Thanks for any assistance.

You shouldn't have a problem that time of year, but you'll need to keep an eye on the forecast. If there is any ice that forms during the night it should be light and gone by an hour after daylight.
Unless there are some freak late season storms, there shouldn't be any problem with snow on the road, either.
Not only should your concern be with the road conditions, but with the fact that most CGs close for the winter, and don't open until mid-May or so. You'll need to check ahead everywhere you want to stay to make sure there is a CG open that will have what you need and in which your rig will fit.
Agreed that you are likely to encounter wintery weather well into May that far north. You might get lucky if we have an early spring, but after 30 years in the upper Midwest, we've seen that happen only a handful of times. Average date of last frost in northern Illinois is about May 15, and we sure don't plant tomatoes here before Memorial Day!
In 2004 we had 7" of snow on April 23rd in SOUTHeast Michigan. Only lasted about three days, but enough to make driving miserable. We also had snow in late April this year. The further north you go, the more you can expect. As kknowlton stated, it's iffy well into May, but the big problem is lack of campgrounds. Most don't open until sometime in May, and those that do don't turn on the water until even later. Plan ahead by calling and researching websites.
This year we had temps in the 80's and the low 50's in April/May. Plus snow flurries in April. First we were 20* above normal then 20* below normal.
Don't expect any campgrounds to be open until at least mid-May as the last threat of frost is around that time. Normally ice-out on the lakes is around the second weekend in May.
This year our garden didn't get planted until Memorial weekend. Been cool this summer.
