I have done loooong days in the past but I don't have the iron butt I used to. I take a couple extra days off and take my time you never know what you'll miss along the way.

Take a Woodalls directory with you. Note the campgrounds along the way at potential stopping points.

Go until you're tired or the kids drive you crazy.

300 - 350 miles per day was comfortable for us, but have done up to 500 miles per day in our 4200 mile trip this summer. It tends to average covering about 50 miles per hour allowing for gas stops, driver changes, and the inevitable road construction or traffic jams. We usually eat lunch on the road, by which I mean usually I walk to the kitchen to make us sandwiches to eat as we continue to roll down the road (it saves time and is healthier than fast food) w/ DH driving. We both take turns driving and navigating. We also try to plan for good fuel stops, like a Flying J, which are easier and faster to get in and out of. Remember you'll have to allow for breaking and making camp at the beginning and end of each day.

I'm new to this but after my first year I would say 350/400 miles a day is a good days work. I've done over 500 and been miserable. Now I plan my trips using this guage.

I love driving my mh and can and do spend up to 12 hours behind the wheel, occasionaly more. Bearnkat got it about right......with rest stops, stops for meals and fuel, you will average about 50 mph. Also traffic around cities and construction will slow your progress.

However, with three young kids, that could change things quite a bit. After a day or two on the road, you should be able to figure out what your and your families limits are.

I agree with both, so I would try to base my travel on how many hours the kids can handle per day.

I've done about 900 miles in one day, then I found a nice safe, quiet Wal*Mart. I left one truck area after two spanish speaking "gentlemen" appeared to be about to break in. Showed them a .45 and shotgun and they decided to go elsewhere, very quickly!

Our very first trip with our TT we planned way too many long days of 400-500 miles. Lots of one night stops. Never again, and it's just the two of us. Now our trips consist of mostly 2 or 3 night stops at State or National parks and driving days of 350 miles or less. (mostly less) The trip itself is as important as the destinations. This does limit just how far we can go since we both still work full time and 10 days is about as long as we can get off at once. We are quite fortunate to live where we do as there are many incredible places to go that fall within that distance. (1500-2000 miles round trip)

The entire trip is relaxing that way.

In the past when the kids were smaller and I was hauling a tent, we would go 12 hrs plus. Just dumb...
Now I plan my trips around 6 hrs. Camp for a day or two (depending on the sights in the area). Then drive another 6 hrs or so and repeat.

I am new to RVs as well, and I have been doing my trips in ever longer stints. I started out with 2 hours, now I did one 3.5 without stopping and it was cake. Next month going down to Bahia Hondo, that will probably take about 6, it will be a good test for me and the family. the kiddos are 8.5 yrs old...yep twins.

I have covered as much as 1200 miles at one time. Stopping only for fuel and food as needed. We travel at night mostly, so less traffic, the kids will sleep, wife usually sleeps. Only one awake other than me are the dogs.
