OK, there may be a thread someplace on the forums, but I didn't find it. Our potty is fighting back. When we push the peddle, it bubbles and spews before the contents go down the hole. While this may sound funny, it's not! It's like the tank if full of gas and it is trying to.....well, what is the word? It's like it has gas and is trying to expel it. (I know the word, but am trying to keep it clean)
So, what I suspect is the vent is plugged up. We just came back from New Mexico which is at a much higher altitude, but by opening the potty, I would think the pressure has equalized. the ONLY thing I can think of is a blocked vent.
What do you guys think?
I really don't want to flush and have the potty spew its, ummmmm, stuff back at us!

Sometimes it will do that if there is a "pyramid of solids" built up at the bottom of the pipe into the holding tank. The pyramid blocks the stuff going down and the air in the pipe burps back (polite term) This can happen if you don't use enough water to wash everything fully into the tank when the toilet is flushed. The way I fixed this was to take a long wire-coat hanger or such and rake the pile of "solids" around and keep flushing with water to wash it away. Then a complete flush of the holding tank to wash away any remaining solids. It ain't fun, but it's better than the "burps", and not near as bad as having the dump hose come loose when you pull the dump valve-don't ask how I know!

Some tanks have their vents in shallow places. If you are parked unlevel the vent side might get blocked and cause your issue. Mine will actually percolate and burp. It took me awhile to sort that one out. I ran water into the vent pipe after dumping the tank and it was clear. It happened again and I opened the compartment that was screwed shut to troublehoot. My tank is not just a simple square tank. It has a shallow place in the top 1/4 of the tank on one end. Parked at an angle and a rather full 2/3 tank, the vent is blocked. I now know that all I need to do is kick the level button and move about 1/2 a bubble and the tank is good until filled.

We're also getting more odor inside than normal. Either my wife is eating more beans or..... I think it's a blocked vent.
So how do I check the vent?

I would think that you could simply put something akin to a fishing pole down the vent from the top--I've never had the problem you describe but my first impression it is related to not getting enough air in the tank so the vent must be the culprit. I believe these vents are simply straight pvc piping that tees at some point to both the gray and black tanks. If the blockage was lower than that tee point, it might be more difficult to clean out.
Perhaps you could use a drain snake?

So how do I check the vent? Go up on top of the RV with a hose and take the vent cap off. Most just pull straight up and off. Then have someone turn the water on with a good flow and put the hose into the vent pipe. The weight of the water column should clear it out. If you have to, you could put a rag around the hose to semiseal the hose to the vent pipe and build a low amount of pressure to clear the vent. Do this when the tanks (both) are EMPTY as you will be putting water into the tanks fairly rapidly when the restriction is blown back into the tank.
Good luck.
