Wow is right. What an opportunity for that photographer!
And let us not forget one very lucky duck!
Magnificent birds (eagles that is, although a good grain fed northern Mallard in the fall isn't bad either )

Every winter there is a colony (?) of Bald Eagles near Lake Guntersville here in Alabama. I've gone out there a few times over the years and taken long distance photos of the Eagles. They will have both mature (with white heads) and immature (without white heads) birds. It really is great.

When we were in Alaska a few weeks ago, a mature eagle chased an immature eagle out of the area, they got their claws tangled and started spiraling towards the water. The mature eagle, being much larger, was able to escape the grasp of the younger one and both flew away.

Just another reason for a trip to see my nephew and his family in Alabama! I don't know where Lake Guntersville is but I bet with a little help I can find it the next time we come that way.

when I was doing some work for lockheed martin in orlando, there was a bald eagle on the side of the road (in the property) that was eating some road kill.
I stopped the jeep right next to it and was about 6 feet away. When it lifted it's head to check me out it stood an easy 3 feet and was probably closer to 4 feet tall. It was an impressive bird to say the least, and it had zero fear. You could tell that one was top of the food chain in it's mind for sure.
The emerald green eyes seemed as though it was looking right through you. Really strange.

Tzena & I have taken several Amtrak train trips between Denver and Salt Lake City and have seen bald eagles along the Colorado River each time {sitting in tree branches watching for the wayward trout in the river}. They are stunning creatures.
