Hi all!
I am looking for everyone's opinion. We are going on vacation in 2 weeks and are going on our first big camping trip. We have soooo many choices we are not sure what to do first! We live in Ohio and were thinking of going to Myrtle Beach's Pirateland? Has anyone been there with their kids. We have 4 (ages 7-11) and we are just wanting to have fun (and a little relaxation) If anyone has any opinions, we would appreciate it! We are wanting to stay on the east coast but will go as far as Florida! Thanks everyone!

Do you have reservations? Not sure how it is this summer but usually they stay booked.
Pirateland is great for kids -- lots to do and a great area for bike riding.
There is a lot to do at Myrtle Beach but most of the campgrounds-- MBTP, Prateland, Ocean Lakes (lots of golf carts), Lakewood all have activities for kids. I usually took my nephews to MBTP or Pirateland when they were younger.
Hope you have great weather and a good time.

Happy Trails.

Live here and can say for sure there is much to do for everyone. Pirateland is the best choice of the 'big 3" in the southern end of MB. Sites are tight, but they all are down here. Agree ressies are a great idea as CG fills quickly and you might want to specify needs as to your type of rig. If you would like any more info, don't hesitate to PM.

Was at Pirateland a few weeks ago. First trip there. It became our favorite MB CG. and we have been to all of them. While back off the beach. The sites are smaller. Out on the beach. They are huge, with picnic shelters. And yes there were golf carts. However. They kept a tight rein on them. They cruised the main road at night. But at quiet time. they were every one parked. Pool is clean, as were the bath houses. And the lazy river is nice.

You will need reservations at any of the MB CGs. This time of the year. Sites are hard to come by.

Pirateland is our favorite also. I called a few weeks ago to see if we could get a last minute site. Our AC has been out of order most of the summer, they were booked until mid August.

We are usually go Labor Day weekend and figured if we needed to wait until mid August we'd just wait for our holiday weekend trip.

Like everyone side -- call for reservation, you might get lucky and find a cancellation.

we have never been there but being from fla I would highly reccomend Walt Disney Worlds Fort Wilderness CG There are so many things for you to do and you do not even have to go into the parks campfires and movies and light parades to fireworks every night to character dinners, hayrides, fishing, golfcarts, bikes, hiking trails or just take one of the boats or monorail and just check out all of the hotels I could go on but give it some thought we usually go 3 or 4 times a year

My 2 cents;
I read several reviews on Pirateland on trip adisor before we left on vacation last week for 9 days which included Jellystone (3 days) in Tabor city, NC and Pirateland (6 days). I'll list pros and cons of I thought of each to keep it short.

Jellystone and Tabor City NC:

Pros- 1 hour from Myrtle Beach, clean, not crowded, decent pool with small water park and slides (great for little ones), first class owner (he actually comes to meet you), very friendly staff, concrete slabs at all sites, built in charcoal grill, free wireless internet over the entire campground, "buddy sites" available (4 sites in a square with grass common area.really neat), and great, cheap pizza. Allow personal golf carts.

Cons- Slide park not open all day (maybe cause it's not so crowded), have to careful of fire ants. They are not everywhere, but sure do hurt when they bite. Not real great for teens.

Pirateland:

Pros- Well maintained beach, back in sites are very wide with a shelter. Pull through sites average width as long as you use the space you are given to your advantage. Close to stores including Camping World. Great for campers with teenagers and like to let them loose.

Cons- Pool & lazy river seemed dirty (so many people?),entire campgroud very crowded, do not allow personal golf carts, rental carts are $50/day, driving age for carts not enforced, golf carts EVERYWHERE, staff not so friendly (no "thank you" at the store), most sites not on concrete pads (maybe upgrading year to year), area under awning at sites very low and holds wate after rain, grass not mowed because the sites are rarely empty for more than a few hours, paid internet only and no quarantee for reception, *****Have to keep your little kids very close or they will get run over by under age cart drivers running full speed driving like maniacs.

My 2 cents... your decision.
Have a great time on your camping trip!

We love Pirateland. Our only complaint is the "no personal golf cart" rule. We have insurance on our cart for that reason...so that we can take it anywhere and be covered if something terrible should happen.
All carts have to be put up at 11pm, so that isnt too bad. The sites are bigger than the other 2 major campgrounds.
The shelters are nice because you dont have to throw up a canopy and have to worry about it blowing away.
Lots of stuff for kids (of all ages) to do. Everyone watches out for everyone elses children to keep them all safe.

I would like to know who owns that place though! I would love to be able to contact him.
