I have a 2002 37u southwind and sometimes when I go to bring in the main slide it will come in maybe three or four inches and stop, I will run it back out with no problems and try again samething, sometimes it doesn't do this, then sometimes it may take three or four times for it to come in, it doesn't make any noise like gears grinding it just stops any suggestions on what maybe going on and also how do I manually crank in the slide out, is there a crank, incase it does get stuck out, we are heading to the races this weekend and hope to have no problems.
Could be a weak motor. Measure the voltage and amps at the motor when moving the slide. When mine reaches the end and the motor stalls there is very significant amp increase.
Some motors have a manual brake release that allows operation of the slide with a wrench.
It sounds like the motor is being overloaded and the controler is shutting down, It has a auto reset breaker. I had my motor replaced with a new hi torque motor from Power Gear and it made all the difference in the world. I got mine through a Fleetwood repair tech in CA. for about 1/3 the price Power Gear dealer was asking. If you want to contact him I'm sure he can help you also. You can reach him at,

Since you have a Fleetwood, I would surmise that the slide out system is made by Power gear. If that is the case, Power gear instructions state to have the MH main engine running while you operate the slides. Are you doing this?? The reason to have the engine running is that the Alternator is then putting at least 14.1 volts back into the battery, which is usually enough to be sure the slide motor has ample power to perform its function. SO if you are not running the engine, give it a try. By the way those instructions are printed right next to the control switches, read them to verify what I am stating here.
As for manually cranking the room back in, you need a socket and a 1/2" Ratchet, not sure the size right now, and there will be a "Nut" on the end of the shaft where you can use that ratchet and socket to turn the shaft, but before you can turn the shaft, you have to locate the motor and release the "Brake" lever, it is a metel bar on the back end of the motor and you turn that bar to the down position to unlock, and then after cranking the room in, you put the "Brake" back to the ON position so the room won't go out by itself when you drive down the road. Power Gear has a web site where you can look at pictures of the set up.

Have you had the slide outs lubricated? Mine on the same rig were sluggish til my RV tech lubed them. They work much better now! He just took some grease and crawled under with the slide extended and smeared it on the rails. Be careful not to get too much on them and especially don't get any on the bottom of the slide or it will be on your carpet the next time you pull the slide in. It's an easy fix to try before spending the bucks for a new motor.
