My grey water valve is leaking. My buddy told me to fill grey water tank with water and add soap. Then open and close the valve several times. This appearred to work to some degree and is now a slow trickle. I have the tank soaking! Being a bit of a fuss pot I opened up the water compartment and could see the the cable operated valves 2' in (Black) and 3' in (grey) Very difficult to get at unless I can get to the valves from a panel under the coach.

Any one had any experience with replacing these valves and or just the seals?

Might need to adjust the cables so the valve closes all the way.

I have replaced both valves on my motorhome. It takes about 10 minutes for each valve. Make sure the tank is empty. remove four nuts and then remove bolts. Valve will slide right out. take new valve and some vaseline. smear on rubber seals to hold them in place. then smear some on the gate itself. hold section apart, slide in valve, install hardware and tighten equally. check for smooth operation. works for both valves.

three inch is Black and two inch is grey. You better be sure you get the right one, or you will be a sh##pot instead of a fusspot.

On mine both are 3" (inch) pipes what my post said was the black is 2' (feet) inside the compartment and the grey 3' ft in.

I replaced my gray water valve and had problem with twisting rubber gaskets. I replaced a second valve and I used the plastic blister pack on both sides of the valve to prevent the twisting of the gaskets. I have a very tight fit between the plastic mounting pieces, by the way the last installation works very easily and properly. My 2 cents worth.

I would try to adjust the cables as suggested above before replacing. If you do have to replace consider replacing with electric valves and get rid of the cables. I replaced my valves with electric ones about 4 years ago and so far no problems. Mine are on the opposite side of the coach (curb side) and it is a better solution for me.

If you do a search on the forum, you'll find one that talks about adding a "zerk" fiting to the valve. Can't remember the OP but I made a mental note that when one or both of mine start to fail, I'll try it.
Good luck

The pass-thru compartment just forward of the wet bay has a removable rear wall that will allow you better access to the valve. You may have to "chip" out some of the styrofoam insulation and reach between the bracing but it's better than the wet bay access end. Another UA 40J owner has done this with success.
