We will be leaving Seattle area in a few days and were wondering if taking the 101 along the Oregon coast is a good route for a 36' Mh and toad. I have heard there are some bad sections. Or are we better taking I-5 and cutting over from time to time? Thanks, Jim

Take 101 and enjoy yourself. Yes, there is some slow sections but overall coast route is enjoyable. Better to go down it then cutting back and forth across the coast range.

We spend A LOT of time wandering up and down the Oregon coast on 101..it's very RV friendly..

Just be aware that you will pass through lots of coastal towns and have to reduce you speed. Otherwise, it's scenic and interesting.

One of our favorite drives of any anyplace is 101 in OR. You will not have a problem with the drive with your vehicle.

Going south can be bad for your neck because you will want to look to the right for the wonderful view. Same as going north for the left side on the neck.

JIM,
Did the entire coast last September and can't wait to return. Definitely will be some narrow spots but be patient and let the wife enjoy the view. Some days we made a whopping 50 miles and those were the best days. Stop at the BOWPICKER right across from the Maritime Museum in Astoria in the gravel parking lot for GREAT fish and chips. Don't miss Shore Acres, beautiful gardens. Sunsets from any beach. Super views from all the lighthouses.

Have a great time.

OK, Hwy 101 in Washington leaves the ocean a lot.
Best is to drive south on I5 from Seattle to Longview exit 39 And follow the signs to the coast. You will cross the bridge and pick up Hwy30 in Oregon. the only problem here is the climb away from the bridge. It is pretty steep. Trucks run this road daily so it is not a real big issue. In Astoria you pick up 101 south. First night stay at Ft Stevens state Park and enjoy the only place in the continental US that was shelled by the Japanese. Lots of great site seeing and a fine museum. From there drive south on 101. Many many good places to stop for a night or two.
If you want more information, please repost and we can give you lots of places to stop and eat, or camp

Hey Donn easy on short changing Washington Beachs. The OP can take Highway 12 west from Olympia and head for Westport, a great place to visit. Fromm there I would wander down 101 to Long Beach then to the beautiful Oregon coast.
