Leaving for a cross country trip for about 5 months. We're use to spending 4 months in FL and simply have our mail forwarded to us there, but since we'll be moving from place to place on this trip, I'm not sure what to do about the mail.
We converted all our reoccurring bills to auto-pay so that's covered.
I can ask one of my neighbors to pick up the mail for us and call us if there's anything of importance....is this what most of ya do or is there a better way.
Thanks

Here is what I do and it works great. Let's you move about the country and not have to worry about missing any important mail.

Sign up for a forwarding service, get a temporary forwarding card from your local US postal office.
(I think this can also be done online now)Yup here it is!

The forwarding service address is the one you fill in on the temp USP card.

US Postal Office forwards your mail to the forwarding service and then 'they' will forward your mail to where ever you are upon a phone call from you. All of them specialize with working with RV'ers.

There is a whole list of forwarding services and you do not have to claim a domicle with them either. They offer the forwarding service separate.

Happy Camping!

You could make it much EASIER on the neighbors by doing a temporary change of address and have the mail delivered directly to the neighbors house. It's kind of expensive though, it'll cost you the sum of $1.00 to have it transferred for up to six months. Check out the details at USPS.GOV

This is exactly how to do it. We travel 6 months per year and really thought using a neighbor might become a burden to them - use a local UPS store as our mail forwarder. They are great to work with - can send mail any way that we want (normally just use priority mail once per week or two). Just email them with address we want it sent to and when.

$1.00! Too expensive for me.
We just ask our rural mail carrier to deliver our mail to our neighbors house while we are gone and it's done until we return home.

Do you know how many pounds of junk mail pile up in 2-3 months? Talk about a waist of natural resources and landfill space.

I got you beat on that one. First time out Snowbirding that turned out to be a full 12 months, I didn't pick up my mail for an "entire year" and unknowingly, God love my local rural Post Office, they saved each and every piece for me!!

When I got back in town and went to the PO to finally sign a forwarding card they bought out 2 huge tubs of mail it weighed a ton.

Another question regarding mail. If a "snowbird" park that I will be staying at for 4 months will not accept mail, where can I have it sent? It appears (in looking at their web site) that GENERAL DELIVERY can only be used for 30 days.

Most Post Office's don't get that strict about it. If they do just have it delivered to a different post office in the area.

Another option is to just get a temporary box either at the local post office, or a UPS Store which offers short-term mailboxes.

Any RV park who doesn't want to receive mail isn't worth staying at in my opinion.
