Just wondering if anyone brings along a firearm or some other means of protection? I know alot of the lower 48 have laws that honor other state's carry permits. Of course being a responsible adult, and acting accordingly apply. I being from a law enforcement background would prefer to have my favorite side arm with in easy reach, if needed away from home!

The constitution is the framework our laws are based on. If you are legal IAW your state laws, then you're OK, but the constitution is not law.

To answer the OP, I may or may not carry in states where I am legal IAW their state laws, but never carry in states where I am not legal. My service sidearm I carried on duty, is always available to me though, in a legal and responsible manner.

The likelihood that I can find, load, and use my gun in close quarters isn't very good. But a couple of ax handles, another story. And they can't go off if handled improperly! The short answer, to protection, yes.

As a former LEO I'm sure you know the importance of situational awareness. That said, firearms are your last line of defence. I think it's safe to assume that most of us carry some form of protection for the safety of our families.

Where do you plan to camp that you need a firearm?

I guess I have been camping in the wrong places for the last 25+ years. Never even felt threatened.
I do pack along common sense, however.

To each his own. It's certainly your right to carry protection and it should remain so.

Well lets see, there was a report here on the forum today about a shooting at Bryce NP. How many RVers visit there every year then there have been many reports of problems everywhere RVers tend to be, CGs, WalMarts, rest areas, truck stops and I could keep going, but that covers many places that I expect to be. This is not the America that your folks knew, but is a new America under siege by the criminal elements, that have no regards for either you or your property. If you are still living in the 40s or 50s, then you are not aware of the happenings today.
