If you end up near Bridgeport, CA on US 395, Bodie is a must see. The only special that John Wayne ever hosted shot all of his scenes there. The entire town, what is left of it, is a California museum.

I hear the fishing can be pretty good in the area, but I think it is all catch and release.

If you get as far as the Columbia Gorge, you might see the Maryhill Museum. Klickitat County museums

And the Whoop-n-Holler museum in Bickleton WA. It's a ranch outside town with several buildings crammed with old vehicles. They also moved an old school house in.

In Bickleton itself is the Bluebird tavern with the oldest pool table in Washington. They also have a fantastic burger there. The town's population is all of 300.

At The Dalles is the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Museum It has a lot of Lewis and Clark exhibits.

You also can't miss the fish hatchery by the Bridge of the Gods. The park there is beautiful. It makes a great lunch stop since there's RV parking too.

FMCA# F355513. 40 foot, one slide, Cat powered Magnum Blue Max chassis, PAC brake PRXB, Allison MD3060, Aqua-Hot, 7.5 KW Quiet Diesel, Howard PCS, Velvet Ride suspension. 2006 Jeep Commander attached via a Blue Ox Aventa II; stopped with a Brake Buddy.

I have not seen all that I want to see of California, but I have only lived here 56 years.

It is kinda big.

If you are south bound, you will not enjoy HWY 1. You will be on the ocean side and while beautiful, the drive can be rather scary.

I know it was mentioned that all the National Parks were already on the list. But what ever you do give yourself plenty of time to see the Grand Canyon. Also if in your budget consider going to Williams AZ and park your RV in the Grand Canyon Railroad RV park and then consider taking the Grand Canyon Railroad up to the Grand Canyon rim. It is a great experience!

If your travels take you to San Diego we have the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. Their is a RV park called Campland on the Bay that is very nice but a bit pricey to stay at. You might need to call ahead for a spot. Also if you have a toad you can get to many places in San Diego from there. If you are not going into San Diego but might be a bit north, in Escondido we have the Wild Animal Park. It is another Zoo type place, but very different then your typical zoo. I personally like the Wild Animal Park better.

We can vouch for the GC railway in Williams, you are a couple blocks off old route 66 and they have western shoot em up shows every evening. The train ride makes the exurshion stress free getting there and back. If you need more time in the GC then there are packages that include overnight stay at the hotel in the park.

just to answer a couple of the posts - we're 38 feet with jeep toad and plan on heading down the california coast into nevada, arizona, utah, texas and then along the southern coast to florida. From there we head back north to our home in NY. We have 3 kids coming along for the ride.

thanks again for the very thoughtful and helpful responses.
