We will be heading to Rocky Mt. National Park in a couple of weeks. When I route us from Cheyenne to the Grand Lake area of the National park I get three different routes.
One comes in through Estes Park from the east. I am thinking that this will be a long drive to the non-reserveable RV campground on the west side.
Another takes us in from the SE--
Another takes us in from the NW...
any thoughts here?
We are pulling a 31 foot fifth wheel.
Go over to Laramie and take the route over the Medicine Bows (230)to CO 127/125. At Walden take 125 straight (almost) into Granby then north to Grand Lake. Easy pulls and good scenery with little traffic - and good 2 lane roads.
Enjoy the 'back' roads.

I couldn't agree with cruiserjs more. Much more laid back and good road all the way to Grand Lake. I have taken the route in the past myself and its a breeze.
The route sugested by cruiserjs is certainly the easiest route but takes you a ways out of your way. Going in through Estes and through the park would be by FAR the most scenic route and would be my choice. Making the pass through the park in the late afternoon might cut down on some of the traffic on Trail Ridge Road which is the big drawback to that route. Even so, I suspect it would be faster than coming in through Waldon. The route over Berthoud pass would be my LAST choice because it's so FAR out of your way though it is scenic.

We hope to be able to stay a few days, so if we don't come in through Estes, we will still make that drive. It sounds as if all three possibilities are ok. We were thinking about going to Laramie anyway, so that might suggest our route in.
