I can't quite figure out from the archives
whether RV'ers prefer the East or West side.I have a 31 ft. Class A,two slides and need a open view to the sky for my satellite dish.I still work and need that internet connection.Would like to be close to the park.Looking for a recommendation. My wife and I will be there in about 10 days.

I stayed at the KOA on the East side and it certainly had a clear view for sat. service IIRC.

How long are you going to be in the area? If it's more than 6 days, divide your time in half, and stay a few days on both sides. In my opinion, there is more to see on the east side. The travel day from one side to the other is scenic in itself. Johnson's is my favorite on the east. The lower side will have no problem with your satellite, but there is no sewer there. There is a dump, however.

You are going to a beautiful place!

We just stayed three days in Apgar on Westside and ten days in Two Medicine on East side. Both sites will easily fit a rig up to 40 feet in many areas. Apgar has a lot of trees so I didn't put out my dish (our Verizon Internet card had a strong signal though) but Two Medicine looked to be wide open although I didn't set up my dish because generator hours were limited to 8-10 12 -2, 5-7 and the scenary was better than watching the tube.

Pics on my blog if you want to check it out. My advice is to call in sick and enjoy the park

Some points to consider on East vs. West.
1. If rafting is in your plans, all trips go from the west side. Same for helicopter tours.
2. Get groceries on the west side in Columbia Falls, or the closest on the east side is in Browning. Don't count on the grocery in St. Mary. Their idea of meat is bacon and lunch meat, no produce to speak of.
3. East side has better wildlife viewing opportunities, 3 of the 4 boat tours, and pretty easy access to the Canadian part of the park if you intend to head to Waterton.
4. Better (in my opinion) hikes on the east side.
5. Food on the east side: Park Cafe has creative entrees and great pie, Johnsons has huge family style meals, Two Sisters has good burgers (don't mind the aliens on the roof), and the Italian place at Swiftcurrent has creative options. Never tried the Cattle Baron, but heard it is good. Pricey, however. Food on the west side: Glacier Village has good pizza, Eddies has good dessert, Lake MacDonald Lodge is good.
6. A red jammer tour is well worth the money.
7. The live music at the Many Glacier hotel is great and gives you a good history of the area.
8. I don't know which direction you are traveling from, but if you are coming from the east, and going through Browning, take the Duck Lake road to St. Mary...not route 89.
Have a great time!

Posting from tjholyoke is very accurate from what I know of the area. East side or west side? 10 days ....... split it IMHO. I would spend more time on the east side but we like hiking, etc. We like FHU's and would recommend KOA on the east and North American on the west. I second not taking Hwy 89 - take the road from Browning to Babb and come back down.

tjholyoke - you REALLY should get to ND, NE and KS --- don't know what you are missing! Or maybe you do! (We have not been to KS either)

Hehehe.....actually have camped in North Dakota last summer. Just haven't updated the map. Funny, but every time we travel out west we either go way north or way south until we get to those wonderful Rocky Mountains....so the middle just gets left out. Looks like we may be heading back out west next summer, too. Probably to Montana, though, so that puts us on the northern route again. I plan to visit them someday when work isn't calling me home too quickly.
