My neighbor had two of his Carlyle tires blow on his TT last week on their way to Myrtle Beach, they were both less than 2 years old.

I am beginning to think after reading many threads (these seem to sprout once or twice a week in various formats) that there are as many opinions about tires as there are tires. You can search for a specific tire by name and spend the night following posts.
I got a set of Duros on my trailer in August (they were built in June) and after four trips and 1400 miles the sidewalls and treads cracked. I guess this is common for some Duros (others have posted no problems with these). I turned them in for warranty but could not bring myself to put them on. I ordered some Denman Express tires. All I can say at this point is they look good and were made in Mexico.
Others seem to have had good luck with Denmans, Maaxis, and US Goodyears. That does not rule out that some have had good luck with other brands. Also remember, the number of people posting here is rather small when compared to the number of trailers (and tires) that are out there.

Another vote here for Maxxis. A year ago I went to load range E tires on my TT. So far so good.
I'm aware of the 65 MPH restriction on ST tires but have never heard an explanation as to why. Could someone enlighten me in this regard???

Thanks all
I will start looking today. Our TT weighs in at 6960 pounds fully loaded for our travel. I drive at 60 to 65 most of the time if the road and limits permit. On rough roads I slow down. I tried driving at 55 for a while to help the fuel burn but there was not any appreciable difference. I am convinced that my problems are junk tires. We are in PA this week and one of the seasonal guys here is a tire dealer and is coming by this morning.

Maxxis ST225 75R 15E will serve you nicely. STs are rated for 65mph. My Ds were inflated to 65psi and I inflate my Es to 80psi. No problems and I've towed with temps up to 102* ambiant at 62 mph my normal speed. JMHO

Howard,
A couple of things to be aware of specific to your Rockwood.
1. The wheel rims are 5 inch, this limits you to a ST205/75R15 tire, unless you invest in new wheels.
2. Denman makes a ST205/75R15 load range D tire. Neither Maxxis or Goodyear offer this tire. The others that offer it are Chinese.
3. If your posted weight is the weight on the axles, you need to try to shed some weight, if it is total including hitch weight you are ok. The trailer axles are only rated at 3500# each.
Good luck and I hope the rest of you trip is uneventful!

On a tandem axle trailer, carry two spares.
When a tire blows, you immediately overstress the tire that is still aired up on the same side as the blown tire. Many change the blown tire only to have the other one blow out shortly after. When this happens, you then overstress the new tire.
When you have a blowout on a tandem axle trailer, replace both tires if you can.

I am relatively new to this business of hauling a big old thing behind me, but have been concerned about tires since I started. I check my air each stop, drive at a reasonable speed, etc, but in the back of my mind are the videos made by Michelin!
Anyhow, I was curious about speed ratings of the ST tires and came across this article. I suppose it is not new to most of you, but I found it very good reading. For instance, I did NOT know about the sidewall strength of ST tires.

I got a set of 15" D rated Maxis from this place online. They also had E rated tires and offered free shipping.
