I'm looking at being in Colorado the end of Sept. & first part of Oct., hoping to catch the fall colors. I'm thinking in terms of National Forest campgrounds with electric hookup such as One Mile near Almont & Redstone near Carbondale. First of all, would these be good choices for fall color? Secondly, would these campgrounds tend to be lightly used at that time of year, or would they be loaded with other folks looking for fall color and/or hunters? Hopefully someone familiar with those areas would have some insight. If anyone knows of other NF campgrounds with electic that would be suitable, I'd appreciate knowing that as well. Thank you in advance.

Fall colors should be in full color at that time, we have not experienced crowded campgrounds during that time of year. You should be able to enjoy in relative privacy.
You picked a very good area and there should not be a big game season at that time. I think most people looking at the fall color are day trippers from Colorado.

Don't think one mile will be open that late. When we were there in July they were going to close early this year to do some work on the electrical system in the park.
Thanks for that info, 12th Man. I'll definitely check that out before I attempt to land at One Mile. Anyone have leads on other NF campgrounds in that area that have electric hookup?
Few NF CG's in CO have electric hookups. A couple of others include Stillwater south of Grand Lake on the west side of Rocky Mountain NP, and Matterhorn, south of Telluride. Neither are in central CO, but there are some nice areas of aspen in and around the Telluride area. From Matterhorn, you can make day trips and cover the area between Durango and Ouray. Some spectacular aspen viewing in that whole area.
Another possibility are a few of the state parks. Rifle Gap and Rifle Falls SP's both have cg's with elec. hookups. They are off of I-70 and provide access to the Flat Tops as well as day trips to Maroon Bells and Grand Mesa. North of Ouray, Ridgway SP also has CG's with hookups.
We just got back from a stay at One Mile Campground. Campground host advised us that One Mile is closing on Sept 1st, so the USFS can upgrade the electric hook up sites to 50 amp. Even the host has to leave. I understand that Rosy Lane and Lotus Creek Campgrounds may close as well.
I haven't heard about Lakeview Campground in Taylor Park? They do have electrical sites if they're open that late? If they are open, it would ne a great time of year for viewing the aspens.
While we were there, the night time temps dropped down to 34 degrees and at Tin Cup, it dropped down to 27 degrees. Soooo, who knows what'll be going on in Sep/Oct? Good Luck.
