We went about 500 miles with are 5ver from NJ to PA Hershey High Meadow Campground, then to family reunion near Bloomsburg PA and then down too South Jersey Campground. This was our second trip with our 95 Wilderness 5ver and we are extreamly happy with our 2 trips. The only thing that surprized me was the speeds other campers were driving while towing on RT 80 and PENN turnpike. I was keeping around 65 and was passed by many campers. Once I was passed by 3 in a row as if they were racing. They were 1 5ver and 2 TT's all on each others bumpers. I have all the towing power I need with my 7.3 Powerstroke that is not stock but I refuse to tow my 5ver over 70.
Am I just too old fashioned or are these guys nuts
Our next trip is to Gettysburg Battleground and some haunted tours

We just came home from Maine today (95 to 495 to 290 to 90) and we had TT and Fifth Wheels passing us like we were standing still. DH always does speed limit, occasionally about five miles over, so 70 at the most. We always figure let them go and we know that we will at least make it to our destination safely, unless of course the unforeseen happens...some of these guys are crazy. We had a guy pass us on one day and we estimate that he was doing at least 85 with the fifth wheel - that's just nuts.

A little over a year ago on our way back home from a week long trip to a Good Sam Ralley in Georgia I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the read light flashing. Well after a gallant effort to talk the lady policeman out of the ticket I was informed that she does not give warnings. It was my first ticket in over 20 years and I was angry with myself and embarrased. Looking back now I realize that I was beginning to believe I could drive any way I wanted and it would not catch up with me. I am now thankful that all I got was a ticket. I have now slowed down to a reasonalbe speed of 60 to 65 with the 5th wheel. By doing so, I found that I am much less stressed after a day of driving and my fuel milage has improved by a couple of mpg. If others wish to tow faster just ease over when you can and let them go. Have you noticed how many professional truck drivers are now driving slower? Drive the speed you are comfortable with and you will enjoy your fiver more and probably live longer.

Not infrequently you'll pass THEM down the road while they're pulling rubber out of the side of their trailer

Towing or not I like to let people pass me. I call them my radar detectors. They run up ahead to see if there is a speed trap so I don't get a ticket. I don't tow my fifth over about 65 anyway. But not towing I might go 75 and it's a great thing to have all those people volunteer to get the ticket so I don't.

Check the speed rating on the camper tires. If they are ST tires you will be surprised. Many folks like to say that RV drivers are the safest drivers on the road. I for one say they are among the worst. We stay at 63/ 65 max and keep our distance from other Rv's.

I just don't know. Sometime when I wasn't looking, it became OK to break the law, as long as it wasn't by much, and SPEED. It has become a right in some minds and they become angry to the point of road rage if others don't clear a path for them.
I'm not talking of the occasional 60, 65, or even 70 mph, but 80 to 85 mph in 55 zones. It's bad enough when they are driving solo, but when they are towing 10 to 14 THOUSAND lbs. behind them, I wonder if they ever consider the consequences of their action if they blow a tire, a dog or deer crosses their path, or someone pulls out in front of them.

Yes they are nuts! The point of our RV is to enjoy ourselves. When we travel at 62-65 mph we are able to drive comfortably and in total control of our rig. When I have driven over 70 I feel as though I am outside of the envelop and something bad could happen at any time.
