Anyone experienced this? On my '09 Ford F-350 SD, when I hook up my flat trailer, I get a "Trailer Fault" warning light on my dash readout. When I check lights, brakes, turn signals - every thing is good. When I pull a gooseneck or 5th wheel, no issues. Any ideas, as I have no idea where to start on the flat trailer as everything works?

What year is the trailer?
We had the same problem(while we were towing the camper) that the trailer fault would just go on sporadically. Come to find out, the wires that they put through the trailer axle to link both sets of brakes had worn down to bare wire and was being grounded through the tube.
Check all you're wiring on the trailer that you can see, and if you don't find anything there, replace the wire through the axle with a double coated wire and mount it on the outside of the axle tube.

When we bought our rig new I got the same problems. Worked on the old trailer but not the new one. Turned out the brake wire was pinched in the hubs and was causing an occasional short signaling the "Trailer Fault".

My one trailer did that as well. Turned out to be a bad ground. Seems my trailer brakes (and brake controller signal) was grounding through the trailer's tonque coupler (around the vehicle's ball) - not through its dedicated ground wire. Thus, weird and random faults - especially when hitting bumps. Might want to check the trailer grounds as well...

Thanks for the help. I'll give the wiring a good look. The trailer is about 4 years old, but has not had a lot of use.

I have seen this with my boat trailer which has surge brakes and when I moved the 5er I had no batteries (borrowed bats for the boat). My guess was there was no voltage but did not use that truck for towing boat to see if the fault continued, maybe I should check the wiring ground on the boat?

Check the ground, and if the trailer has been used quite a bit, you may want to replace the wires that are going through the axle tubes to the brakes.
