outdoor bob i dont think many of us have monsoons and even the gismos will blow away unles tied down to ground .I beleive most with train and some wind will hold up i believe the question was are the extra money for the gizmos right now are worth the diff in price for now.Santa might give him the more expensive ones on Christmas.

Thanks for the input all...and thanks for not scoffing too! Looks like we're blanket-bound for sure. And I was just in the Cockeysville REI...shoulda posted this earlier. Will go check them out. Is there a specific brand I should look for???

I debated this as well. I decided to go with gizmos for two reasons:

1. At the time, I didn't have "Free time" to work out fit details (cutting or sewing if necessary)
2. I wanted to support someone who is a small business owner and has a good reputation. This is more of a philosophical thing for me.

I suspect, you'll be good to go either way as many of the posters above have expressed their success stories so far.

We bought the double solar blankets (2) at BassPro in Destin while camping at Topsail Hill. They made a HUGE difference and were only $24.00. When we left I gave them to a family from Jersey who were down on their first ever in their new pup.

We used clothes pins to holed them on.

We use the blankets and they work great! They keep the canvas clean from sap and other dirt, they block the sunlight in the morning, and they help keep it cool in the heat. We use them every time. Also, much cheaper than the PUG's. I would recommend the Solar Blanks!

Do the blankets keep the condensation under control? I hate waking up to "raindrops" falling on my head.

I went a different route,same result.

I bought a heavy duty tarp at Cosco with a reflective side and cut out sections to fit the tops then had to sew on velcro to mate with the velcro i glued to the lip behind the door.

Nice thing is when its stretched out with bungy cords the tarp is actually elevated leaving a 4" air gap.

Bad thing is...not sure how well velcro will hold up to high winds

as far as i know, they are very close in how they are made.

the question on which to buy is whether the standard 5x7 blankets will cover your tent ends.
hybrid and popup canvas ends can be different sizes, front and rear. the front slope of the hybrid makes the top of the canvas longer than the rear, which has no slope.
so, most will have an longer canvas tent on the front than on the back.
PUGs are custom-fitted for each brand.

my Roo's front and rear can use the 5x7 blankets. but it's front slope is not as much as other brands.

some people have cut the blankets and sewn them to fit, just like the PUGs would be.
