Went to Yard Sales today and saw a 3 burner old old but in great looking shape 3 burner Coleman Camping Stove. I couldn't find a propane hook up area and when I asked the person he said it ran on white gas but couldn't explain what it was.....So what is it?

Coleman sells it or use to. It was very pure so it did not stop up the jets. Dad actually had a blow torch that ran on white gas. I have coleman latern that uses white gas but it is in the basement somewhere.

Gas without lead. I'm not sure if you can use present day unleaded or not. You might have to burn the Coleman fuel.

It's still available at many stores. Here is what it is: Naphtha and White gas.

You can get coleman fuel at many places. I have a coleman fuel stove and still use it most every trip. Burns hotter than propane but is a litter messier to deal with, but not much.

So I guess the 3 burner stove for $20 was a great deal...Its an older on but like I said in good shape and looked very solid unlike alot of things made today.

Used to use the Amoco Silver, which I believe was white gas...no additives or colorings.
Just as easy, and almost as cheap, to buy the cans at Walmart or any Camping store.

It works very well in the stove or lanterns, but you need to pressurize the tanks, and the lanterns need "mantels" that burn....there is a bit of a knack to using them, without burning them up.
The stove is much easier to use. I've got a 2-burner, and a backpacking single burner stove...both work great!

Did you buy it?

I have OFTEN used regular unleaded on coleman gas lanterns. No reason you couldn't use in with the stove either.

If there was a question of the stove working on propane vs white gas, my question would be if you got the fuel tank with the stove. The fuel tank is pretty large and would make it obvious that the stove didn't work on propane.
If the tank is missing, the stove will be useless however, there is a conversion/adapter to convert white gas Colemans to propane.

HERE is the adapter. Well worth not having to carry around gallons of fuel.
