There more things to see and do than you can imagine. Gharodo of Redemption, West Bend, Living History Farms, Des Moines, Loose Hills, Council Bluffs, Clock Museum, Spellville, Victory Motorcycle Factory, Spirit Lake, Iowa Great Lakes same area. This is only a few that I did not see above.

Surely, the presidential candidates are begging for votes for the 2012 Iowa Caucuses by now. Might be great fun to just go up to people and, just like Jimmy Carter, introduce yourself and tell them you are running for president. You never know how it will turn out. BTW, if you win I want the ambassadorship to Monaco (the country, not the RV manufacturer). Western

Dubuque, IA and Galena, IL are great stopovers. There is a Riverboat museum in Dubuque and an incline railcar built long ago. Galena, IL no too far to the east is a great historical town with a nice trolly tour.

If you are interested in architecture, Mason City has some wonderful examples of Prairie School architecture.

Don't forget the Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City, "one of the finest Prairie School buildings in the United States".

Mason City, Meridith Wilson's home town, is the model for "River City" in "The Music Man." It is close to Forest City, and is full of Prairie School architecture.

Somewhat off the Interstates, but still enroute to north central Iowa, Galena in Illinois is a nicely restored early 19th century boom town (lead mining), has been a popular regional tourist destination since the mid-20th century. It has more recently become a summer country home destination for city folks. Galena has built all this on being President Grant's home town, and having not been "modernized" in the early 20th century.

All I remember when driving through Iowa was miles and miles of corn fields. I also noticed that my coach was getting real good fuel mileage. OH! and casino's where we won a little money. LOL!
