RV.Net has been bookmarked in my browser for a long time - linking me directly to the Class C Forum. Recently, after a minute or so of forum reading, that "Don't Be A Lurker" pop-up now hogs my entire screen. It invites me to register & join. aeejbe is already a Senior Member, so WHAT I gotta do to make 'em STOP?
This thing appears with Firefox, my primary browser - as well as with my seldom used IE. It seems to be something specifically generated from RV.Net. After being 'scolded' for being a lurker, the wording goes on - inviting me to try the new blogging feature as well after registering.
Here is how the "lurker pop-up" is designed to work.
When someone enters the Open Roads Forum, there is suppose to be a 30-second delay. If that person has not logged in at the end of the 30 seconds, the pop-up is displayed. If the person is a member, a cookie is placed on their computer and, as long as the cookie is in place, the pop-up should not re-appear, logged in or not.

You can't. These little nasties have been around for some time now on all (I think) but the Trailer Life portal. You can put up with the popups, accept the stored/naughty cookies or change portals.
Turn javascript off while reading the forums and you will not get the popups. It's also safer to surf the net especially on "unfamiliar" sites as most virus/malware use some form of scripting for their attack. You will need to turn javascript back on (and reload the page) in order to "post" to the forums. If you are using Firefox, you can download the extension QuickJava which allows you to easily toggle javascript or java on/off.
